Yeast does need warmth to multiply, and that is what it does - feeds on the sugar as it multiplies, and produces alcohol.

So can I re-ferment it? And if so, how?

Re: Rhubarb wine making thread with recipe

It's more the lack or seeming total absence of alcohol that is the problem :?

Re: Rhubarb wine making thread with recipe

When I made my rhubarb last year it was very cold and was cold indoors too. Maybe that is what stopped the fermentation? It certainly started bubbling like yours did and was trying to make a mess, but it didnt last very long.

Re: Rhubarb wine making thread with recipe

Is it possible to restart the ferment? Or should I just chuck it?

Re: Rhubarb wine making thread with recipe

Have just sampled another glass of the rhubarb wine - to be honest, it doesnt appear to be alcoholic at all So I tried the elderflower instead (or as well, really, as I could hardly undo the rhubarb sample before trying the elderflower sample) - now that's potent, if a little overpoweringly elderflo...

Re: Rhubarb wine making thread with recipe

Just having my first glass of last year's rhubarb wine. Having never made wine before (used Helen's recipe), I was a little worried. It didnt look like rhubarb or even smell like it. However, although it is as clear as any white wine, it tastes very rhubarby. It's sweeter than I normally drink, but ...

Re: restrictive covenants prevent hen-keeping?

Unfortunately that is exactly what it means, as hens are classed as livestock, even if you keep them as pets. However, it does depend on how the covenant is worded, how long ago it was written and if the other party to the covenant is still alive. We looked into this because we have a covenant on ou...

Re: New vote on Charles and Camilla

As marriage is until death and Charles's former wife was dead by the time he married Camilla, the fact he was divorced no longer matters. However, Camilla isnt my favourite person and even though I would like Charles to be King, I also hope Camilla isnt Queen. Though she could still be the wife of t...
