Re: Buzzards

It is heart wrenching when something like this happens, we give ours a thorough check over every few days but were mortified when we found one with a horrendous deep gash down one side under her wing and could not work out where or when she had obtained it, we thought she would die on us. Luckily wi...

Re: Another potato question

How about just throwing it into a bucket/tub full of soil and seeing what comes up or as its a spud, what grows down! Nothing to lose and you will just love the excitement of not knowing what to expect!! :-D

I know I have said it before but we should really get out a bit more!!! :-D

One advantage of snow..............

One advantage of all this snow we have had is the amount of birds that have invaded the garden. Against the white background their colours look absolutely stunning. Today alone we have been watching black and white woodpeckers, green woodpeckers, blackbirds and thrushes, sparrows, dunnocks, jays, bl...

Re: Backyard poultry keepers survey

Just worked my way through this survey (not submitted due to my location), being new to keeping chickens it raised a couple of questions for me to have a think about especially as our three closest neighbours all keep geese, chickens, turkeys, guinea fowl and even the odd peacock plus a variety of f...

Buzzards

Had a bit of a to do in the garden today, we were watching a couple of buzzards soaring overhead when they decided to swoop down taking rather too much interest in our chickens below them, luckily our dogs saw them off then stood guard while they sat in a tree for a while behind us. Question is woul...

)like( Thanks Richard, never knew you could do this, we have just sat and measured out our normal walks and my running tracks. Handy little tool.

Re: Chickens over winter

An update on our winter chicken keeping experience. After many complaints from our chickens about the delay in being released this morning, (we did explain to them that we had to clear a path to get to them through nearly two and half foot of snow but they just continued clucking off at us), all the...

Re: Giant rabbits

I must admit picking Percy up is the only issue we have with him, we stroke him until he is in what we call his "settled submissive mode" then just scoop him up holding him against my chest with one hand on his back the other supporting his rear. When we check him over or groom his feet we...
