Re: Louise's Chicken Diary

Hello everyone. Just a quick update today. I lost my beautiful Violet this morning. She had been doing so well in her old age but went down hill rapidly the last two days. I am absolutely devastated and will miss her so very much.

Re: Blind Giblet & friends at Chickenopolous

Re: Coop with a view

Well said Freeranger 'who can fatham the mind of a chicken?' I certainly can't and I have had them now for years. I am sure your new coop is lovely, especially with a window. My old coop was built with a window in the nest box so I am sure it is not a bad thing. These girls just take their time gett...

Re: My attempt to keep chickens.

Sorry about your sad loss Bob - always sad at whatever age we lose them. I am struggling with my two older girls now. Violet is really looking and acting her age, but still enjoying her life and still insists on being first out when it is play time in the garden. Ivy has lost a lot of her sight for ...

Re: Louise's Chicken Diary

Oh No Sandy - not at all, unfortunately. Any chance she gets she will pull feathers, not only from Aggie but also from Ivy (who is struggling with her sight now). So they are still separated, although they can all see each other and chat through the chicken wire. They all come out in the garden toge...

Rats!!!

OMG I thought I was doing so well on the rodent front. Using jeyes cleaning fluid and disinfectant around the coop run every couple of days. Not seem any mice for a long time but last evening about 6.30pm husband saw HUGE rat in the run. I had locked the girls away early and rat was just wondering a...

Sorry to hear Giblet is not doing too well at the moment. I do hope she makes a full and speedy recovery from this soft egg issue. Sending her (and you) best wishes.

Re: Louise's Chicken Diary

Hi Sandy - Food and water bowls all over the place and fresh veg every day. Vera will even have a go when they are all out in the garden when there is plenty to do. It's just a really bad habit I think. Thanks for your ideas Sandy. I am always open and appreciate everyone's ideas and advice.

Re: Louise's Chicken Diary

Hi everyone. Well I still have this problem with Vera feather pecking (poor Aggie is still bald). I am having to separate her at times as she has started to pick on Ivy now as well. Ivy's sight is not good now, but she is still doing her own little chickeny things. So Vera has to be separated when I...

Re: Louise's Chicken Diary

Hi Sandy and Gwen and thanks for your replies. Ivy is not doing too badly at the moment. She is eating and drinking on her own and enjoying a peck around her run. This morning was the first morning she actually came down on her own from the nest box. Although we are having a little bit of improvemen...
