Re: RSPB Garden Bird Watch 2018

Didn't keep a note of the numbers but; various tits, robins, sparrows, pigeons, magpie, my GS woodpecker, blackbirds (male and female) and just before the end of the hour all the little birds vanished and sparrow hawk put in an appearance.

Re: More memories...The Larder (Pantry)

I always thought larder was a posh word for pantry. I remember my Mum had a "meat safe". It was a small wired cupboard on legs and that was where you put fresh stuff to keep flies off. I loved the programme on TV where they took a family and put them through the various years back then.

Re: Alabama Rot

They don 't really know the cause but the main common factor is the dogs which have caught it have been walked in muddy woodland areas. Skin lesions are the early signs and Vet must be contacted immediately.

Re: Help! trying to identify a bird

Yes definitely a little male sparrowhawk but he can go find his meals somewhere else. I have 3 big feeding stations so loads of little birds. I also have my pet chicken but would hope she is far too big for him.

Re: Help! trying to identify a bird

Doesn't look like your picture but I did find a picture which resembled it. Certainly the little birds see it as a threat as they all vanish when it appears.

Help! trying to identify a bird

I am trying to identify a bird which comes into the garden. It is not a daily visitor. I am fairly sure it is a small bird of prey but searched my book to no avail. It is about the size of a small pigeon. It has a grey head and back/wings with a pale pinky/brown front. It comes and sits on one of th...

Re: Feeding the hungry Birds!

Loads of birds. I have 2 feeding stations which in total gives me 4 x large seed feeders, 1 round fat ball (!!) feeder, a peanut feeder, another fat slab holder, peanut butter feeder and 2 dishes which have a mix of dried meal worms and sunflower seeds.
