The first slow worm in years!

Post by cgisby »

Having lived in this house since I was about 7 (I'm 22 now), I've always known what's been in my garden. We used to get slow worms all the time when I was younger, but then the neighbour and her army of cats moved in and I hadn't seen any for years.

Well last year saw the return of frogs, and this year I've found my first live slow worm! I say live because I already found a half mangled one, cheers cats. I made sure it reached the safety of the bushes before I went back inside, it's just so nice to know that the past couple of years of making an environment for wildlife hasn't gone to waste!

I absolutely love the slug dragons! Next up I'm hoping for hedgehogs or for my birdboxes to fill up :)

Lovely creatures, don't like picking them up though.

Reading this I must look up by my bonfire, they sometimes hang out under some corrugated sheeting up there.

Spring is here.

Oh a spent many a 'happy' hour chasing my chickens around our garden trying to rescue slow worms from their beaks!!!
We had quite a few of them in our garden (slow worms & chooks) x

We often see slow worms when walking the dogs, one dog jumps a mile when he sees one the other tries to pick them up which is a problem as we have a variety of not very nice snakes where we live!

As kids we used to catch and keep slow worms, amazing how actions and attitudes change as you get older and "allegedly" wiser!
