Anyone her had success with 'bug hotels'?

Post by fabindia »

I built my first bug hotel this morning but not sure what to expect. Unlike the garden in our old house which was pretty wild, our new garden is very much suburban and is surrounded by other gardens that are in the main well clipped and neat.

I am trying to encourage more bees, wasps, hoverflies and the like so we'll see how it goes.

it's possible not a lot will happen for a while - bugs will be out and about feeding on other bugs at this moment, bees and so on may already have nested elsewhere. Gradually beasties may visit and take residence but it might only start to come into its own in autumn when they all start looking for somewhere to hibernate.

Quite often thought about it, but never quite got round to doing it.
We do have a wood store/logs that the previous owners left which is outside and never been touched in the 5.5yrs we have been here, so possibly something could be going on there that I have missed. May have a look another day.
