Scottish Wildlife

Post by wildlifemad »

We are just back from 2 weeks in Scotland.1st week on Arran,2nd week Wester Ross. The wildlife was amazing as always. From the cottage on Arran we saw plenty of Red Deer, they were on the driveway frequently & also from the back. Also Red Squirrel which we never tire of seeing.Golden Eagle on the ridge at the back where they breed. And also Badgers,I have waited 50 years to see a live one,so we determined to wait for them to come out & they did but too dark to photograph which was a shame but whilst waiting for the Badgers one night we had a Barn owl fly past the window! We did get some nice Red Squirrel pics.We had one morning watching 2 different Otters along the shore for about 3 hours, always lovely to see but hard to photograph! We also saw Short eared Owl & Hen Harrier.
The 2nd week from the cottage we had lots of small birds on feeders but the star of the show was Pine Marten,we saw them every night & got some lovely photos at last as when we have seen them previously it has always been dark but being so far north it never got that dark!Elsewhere during the week we saw White Tailed Eagle, lots of Red & Black Throated Divers really close. When the sea was a bit rough one day we saw diving Gannets close to shore which was a fantastic site but try following them with a camera!!!! All in all a great fortnight just got to sort through the pics now!! Oh & decide where to go next year!!
