I spotted one of these guys does anyone believe me?

Post by fabindia »

I am almost certain I spotted one of these guys at one of our dive sites the other day. Problem is none of the other folks from the dive shops saw him/her. Mabe just like the Loch Ness Monster, it was a bit of a mirage but I am convinced it was a Napoleon Wrasse. I have dived this site over 50 plus and never seen a fish this size. He/she is one big fish.

Although, we have never seen Napoleon Wrasse here at this site before, they are around some 30 kilometres up the coast from here, so seeing one certainly isn't beyond the realms of possibility.

Napoleon Wrasse can grow up to 2 metres long and weigh 180 kg. This one I saw wasn't not that large but at what I guess to be 80 cm, is much larger than any other fish we regularly see there.

I have had a good look round the area since then but nothing. Then again, diving is like that you never know what you are going to spot from day to day, then one day something really unusual crops up.

I'm sure my big fish wasn't a dream

Fish never do. I think the fact that they have no facial muscles and don't blink.

On the other hand maybe they are never happy given they are likely at any point to be the meal for some bigger fish. {rofwl}
