Beau's wart removal

Post by albertajune »

My poor old Beau has developed viral warts on different parts of his body which don't bother him. However he has a large one between his eyes which does. He spends time rubbing his face around the furniture which he then licks because he makes the wart bleed.
I took him to the vet this morning and was given the choice of a cream which will help to stop the irritation, but won't cure it, or have it surgically removed. As it bothers him so much I have decided to have it removed. He had a blood test to see that his liver is OK now and then all being well will have the job done.
Until then I will do as I already do, bathe it with salt water and dab on antiseptic powder. His poor little face looks so brown with all the water etc that goes on it. Hope I have done the right thing in deciding to have it removed as anaesthetic is not good on older dogs and he is 11 this year, but it is minor surgery. I hate having to make these decisions and can only hope that it is the right one for my boy.
I am now a widow and live with my memories.

Ahh, poor Beau and poor you having to make the decision. I'd say you've done the right thing though as it's obviously bothering him so getting rid of it altogether must make him feel better in the long run {hug}

Thanks for the support Kath. The vet did say that he is still fit enough to have the procedure done now rather than in the future. He did have liver problems last year so fingers crossed that the blood test will be good. If not it will have to be the ointment. x

I know what you mean June.
Barney will have to have teeth removed under anaesthetic, as they really are bad.
But I worry as he is 12 in September.
Anaesthetic is so much safer now, than it used to be. Hopefully for both of them. The ops really aren't 'deep' as such. So therefore all should go well {hug} {hug}

We can't help worrying can we. Awful having another life in our hands but we can only do what we think is best for them both. {hug}

I had Beau's blood results yesterday. His liver better than 6mths ago but fat in blood very high. This may be a genetic thing as high cholesterol is with us, so he is on a very low fat diet for abt 3 weeks. Obviously the vet wants his health to be as good as possible. I am applying a steroid cream to help the irritation in the mean time. However if the warts bother him or me too much in the 3 weeks, the vet will remove them.

Will he just take off the one, or remove others while he is under?

He had all stitches except for on the eye lid removed yesterday. They were dispersible but take a long time to go and he was rubbing his face around the furniture because they were so stiff. Much more comfortable now and I can relax. )t'
