Bull dog may be no more

Post by Gwenoakes »

A kennel club is banning the breeders of the above dogs and says they should be breeding, aiming to have longer snouts in the future for healthier animals.
I personally agree with the above, what view does anyone else have?

Totally agree Gwen. Poor things, I hate what some of the breeders are putting dogs through. GSD's also have problems, ours didn't, thank goodness, but some of their lower ends look so painful.

I agree also and hope that the same will eventually apply to other breeds that have been fashioned to the extent that they cannot breathe. I just wish that man would leave nature alone.

It is the dutch kennel club.
Didn't think it was ours, too much of an old boys club to be controversial.
Something needs to be done. These animals can no longer breed naturally. Very few of the females give birth naturally and have to have caesarians. Because the heads are too big for the narrow hips.
If I remember correctly most are artifically inseminated as well.
Then you go onto the formation of the heads and their breathing problems..
My Megan was a 'Victorian' Bulldog. Effectively a mongrel as a product of a number of breeds. Trying to get back to more of the original Bulldog. Longer snout and longer , straighter legs, wider hips.
But as said the Kennel club is a 'Gentlemans' club funded by the money of breeders and those that show and register etc. They are not going to rock the boat until they are made to.

you will just have to be a horrible warning

Breeders should be ashamed of the stress that these poor dogs suffer but don't care. It's all for money. It will only stop if people who want to buy these breeds really care about the welfare of their pets.

I agree totally with what everyone has said.
I believe they are also talking about some spaniels, shitzu, pekes and lots more breeds besides. I did not realise but apparently they can have spinal problems as well, so the sooner it is stopped the better imho.
These people in this country's kennel club, Wendy are not gentlemen imho to allow such cruelty to living, breathing animals. I will not go further although I can feel a huge tirade inside me..……..
