Ordinary liquid soap as opposed to a bar of soap

Post by Spreckly »

I use a bar of soap in the kitchen and wash house, but the latter is getting very small, so I have fished out a new bottle of liquid soap ( a gift some time since), to use instead.

Does anyone know if this is just as effective as bar soap, please?

What are you using it for? And how?
I have an old Fairy bottle in the bathroom and make my own liquid soap for handwashing with all the ends of bars (plus a little water if it gets too thick).

Just using it to do the frequent hand washing Mo. Am wondering if it is as effective as a bar of soap.

Don't see why not. If you grate the bar into the water to make a lather you would get the same lather with liquid soap, if you rub the garment with the bar I suppose you could spot a bit on and use a scrubbing brush or your fingers, or rub it against itself.

I am another one who does not think it would make any difference.
The reason I use bars of soap is because I have been for some time trying to not use as much plastic which obviously the liquid soap comes in.
We have soap bars in the shower, utility and kitchen now and I use an elastic band across the soap holder to keep it out of any water that can accumulate in the bottom of the holder, which works fairly well.
When the bars of soap get too small to use I stick them onto a new bar, so no wastage.

For handwashing soap is soap, whatever form it comes in. Any will do.

I think I misread that, thinking laundry by hand. {rofwl}
For your own hands I'd guess liquid soap is easier to get a good lather.

I can't say categorically but I think it's fine. The point of the handwashing is that there is a fatty part of the virus that can be destroyed by detergents. If you have a lather, the detergent action is there.

I would echo Freeranger's comments. It is the way that soap destroys the lipids (fat) of the virus that makes so effective, better in fact than using just alcohol. In this case soap is soap, whether in liquid form or a bar.
