A sewing needle would be useless without it.
What is this.
It's a bit longer now.

Did you ever play 'the moon is round' at children's parties? Sit in a circle and someone has a stick and mimes drawing the moon and says "The moon is round. It has 2 eyes a nose and a mouth. Can you do this?" Then passes the stick on. When they try to copy what has been said and done they are told 'yes' or 'no'. But 'this' is whatever action the first person did as she passed on the stick, so however well they copied drawing the moon it will be 'no' unless the 'get it'.
As the stick passes round and round the action and hints get more exaggerated until everyone realises.
