First homemade Christmas Decoration
First homemade Christmas DecorationToday was meant to be wardrobe building day and major tidying away of clothes... it didn't quite happen! Well, the wardrobe got built but the bedroom floor is still hidden under piles of clothes. Instead I got carried away making my first ever Christmas wreath... take one polystyrene wreath, cut squares of fabric then push them in with a screwdriver or chopstick. So easy, even I can do it! Can't wait to hang it on the door!

Re: First homemade Christmas DecorationDavina, it really is that easy! I bought the ring from Ebaaaay (used a 33cm diameter ring) and then used 1m each of 5 different fabrics. I actually ran out of fabric but didn't bother covering all of the back so hopefully I will have got away with it. The squares are 3" x 3". I don't have a rotary cutter so the time consuming bit was cutting the fabric, otherwise it was quite a quick project. (I got the idea from a blog/website - Rosmademe. I should have credited my original post but didn't think)

Re: First homemade Christmas DecorationSooo pretty and Christmassy with the reds and greens. I like the idea of the polythene ring to push the fabric into. So much easier and less time consuming than tying on.

Re: First homemade Christmas DecorationI agree with everyone else
A very simple idea, that has turned out cracking!
Re: First homemade Christmas DecorationWow! That is so very, very impressive.

Got me thinking now....if you got the packing material out of appliances I wonder if you could reuse it for that....then you could cut small rings and use them as table decs...do you think ??? ¸.•´¸.•*´¨) ¸.•*¨)✰

Re: First homemade Christmas DecorationBe careful how you cut it. I don't know if it is the same stuff, but when I worked at Playgroup one of the courses we went on gave us a dreadful warning never to use those polystyrene shape that are used for packing (and were so good for threading etc.). The dust is irritatant ant the little blobs stick to your innards if breathed in and are unseen by xrays.
Manda would probably know better than I do if that is true or not. Dance caller. http://mo-dance-caller.blogspot.co.uk/p/what-i-do.html

Re: First homemade Christmas DecorationQuick correction, having checked my fabric order, I had actually bought a fat quarter bundle of 5 fabrics. The ring was a full ring but as I ran out of fabric and did not cover the back, the flat backed rings would have worked just as well and probably cheaper! Oh well, you live and learn! Hope some of you have a go, would love to see your end products. Mine worked out quite pricey but I guess less than I could have bought it for and at least I can bring it out year after year. I should have shopped around for cheaper fabric but with moving house I just wanted to get it delivered quickly and easily!
