Ask a silly question. Which way to turn off the water?

Post by Mo »

I have a filter on the central heating which needs taking out to clean.
My memo for stop-taps is 'clock off', turn clockwise to stop the flow. This filter is in a cylinder with pipes coming into it from above and below, with a nut at the top of one and the bottom of the other where they turn sideways to enter cylinder.I've found a spanner that fits but when I turn the one with the nut at the bottom it just seems to go round and round. Am I turning the wrong way (not convinced it feels any better turning the other way).

I can honestly say, Mo I do not have a clue. Is there any info to be deemed off the net? Just a thought.

My son-in-law worked out that you should just turn them a quarter turn to point the other way. I have now cleaned the filter, but the one that was easy to turn off now won't turn on (to stiff for me) so I have the fan heater on until SIL comes down this afternoon.
Aren't I lucky, he has to come every day to feed the horses so if I need a strong wrist (or someone with computer know-how) I yell.
