Use of cardboard as a mulch

Post by Spreckly »

I am hoping to use cardboard as a mulch or weed suppresant in the now unused vegetable plot.

In the greenhouse I have grown borrage to replace the borrage which was ub tge veggie plot and has disappeared after years. There is also sick looking rasps, an apple tree (not sick) echiums, which are massive, but not flowering, self sown aquilegias, a strawberry patch, which is grassed, and no fruit visible.

So I thought that cardboard might be a partial answer!

Has anyone else used it?

I've not used cardboard but I've read its best to put some compost on top of it.

Thanks Kitla. I wonder if grass cuttings would do instead.

I think its just about keeping the cardboard moist so it breaks down, so worth a try.

I was told grass cuttings on top of cardboard was a good idea to keep weeds down
