Re: a request pleaseUnder construction
Fwiw, I don't think it's worth the prices they ask. the ladder is pathetic - I adapted mine. It is not easy to move around each morning (this is my son in the pic not me. Feel free to ask other questions It'll be alright in the end, if it's not alright then it's not the end.
Re: a request pleaseHi Jock
If wanting to buy a real coop rather than building your own or adapting another structure, you really do seem to get what you pay for. The cheap wooden coops on some sites seem quite badly made and will only last 2 or 3 years - trust me, I know A well built wooden coop with a non felt roof (felt is a bu**er for red mite) can cost a few hundred pounds, not much cheaper than the eglu's. I would love an eglu (the cube one as I think the standard one is a little small) and have had a good look at them at various trade fairs. They look very well made, super easy to clean with the added benefit of being less prone to red mite. There are several other manufacturers now making plastic coops, but all are roughly around the same price. Our cheap wooden coop is now three years old and will probably not last another winter. I'm currently trying to persuade hubs to let me have a nice new plastic one (or a decent wooden one) that will last for years rather than buying yet another cheap wooden one Lucy x

To be honest I can't understand why they are so expensive either. In my case I was just sick of looking at various houses and working out how to adapt them plus we are moving house in a few years and the cube will be easier to move than a wooden house. The best thing about the cube is taking the thing apart for cleaning, in winter that is much easier than crouching in a wooden coop. A couple of people on here have adapted plastic sheds and plastic wendy houses which is probably a much more economical alternative. Re: a request pleaseGreen Frog Designs - remembered it in the middle of the night
Re: a request pleaseIt is green frog designs you are thinking of.
http://www.greenfrogdesigns.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I bought an eglu, decided to send it back within 10 minutes of opening the box. It looked way to small for our needs. We later found out it isn't suitable for larger chickens anyway! We bought a Solway one instead. Much bigger inside. A little rough on the outside, but a fair bit cheaper than the greenfrog (which I have never seen in the flesh, or plastic, if you like :) ) http://www.solwayrecycling.co.uk/recycl ... o-hen-loft
Re: a request pleaseWe have an Eglu MJ, here's a picture for you:
Someone came and built the whole thing for us. Then after a few weeks I got a run extension as well which wasn't that easy for me to do. It's okay for cleaning and touch wood I've not seen any red mites at all. Initially we kept moving it around the garden, but the grass just got trashed and now it's more or less in the same area. I put Aubiose horse bedding down in their run and Eglu. Knowing what I know now, having learn't on the job as it were, I don't think I'm 100% happy with it. We're planning on cordoning off a whole area of the garden and including the Eglu and run in it somehow. Omlet have started selling walk in runs but I think they're extortionate at £500 or something. As you can see from the picture, I put clear shower curtains over the run to try and protect the girls from the rain when it was bad. The colour has gone somewhat over the months, not that it really matters I guess - here look at this on it's first day and all the lovely grass/garden too! Now look at it.... Bev x
