Next box and floor materials?Next box and floor materials? We are wondering what to put in our nest boxes and on the hut floor. At present we have put straw in the boxes, but nothing on the floor.
I have read that some people use wood shavings for the boxes. What would be the best material to put on the hut floor?
Re: Next box and floor materials?I put straw in the nest boxes and wood shavings in the main part of the coop.
Our coop is in a shed, so on the shed flooring we put newspaper down just so it's easier to clean =)
Re: Next box and floor materials? In the nest boxes you could use chopped straw (not hay!), and or shredded paper, also like you said, wood shavings are ok (so long as they have the dust extracted!).
Hark...at me, a newbie giving someone advice....well i never!!.. I am old and wise, because I was young and stupid!.
Re: Next box and floor materials?Thank you both for your replies.
Re: Next box and floor materials?I use easibed in both the main part of the coop and the nest boxes. I find it much easier to poo pick from than either wood shavings or straw although I do put a bit of straw on top in the nest boxes when the weather is cold

Always do sober what you said you'd do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut - Ernest Hemingway Re: Next box and floor materials?I do exactly the same as Madchick.
Easibed in both and straw in the cold. Much easier to poop pick http://www.busheyk9.co.uk
If you can't be a good example........ you will just have to be a horrible warning
Re: Next box and floor materials?I use in both the coop and nest box, also chopped straw in the nest box in the cold weather
