Hello, I'm new
Hello, I'm newHello, I've just joined so thought I'd introduce myself.
I'm Emma, I live near Newcastle (UK), I collected my 2 girls, Daisy and Primrose, on Friday. Daisy is a light Sussex and Primrose is a Black Pearl/DaisyBelle cross (a reverse Sussex??) They were my Mums hens, she also had 2 others but unfortunately they both passed last Summer. My Mum currently lives in Essex, in a house with a huge garden but she's moving later this month back to the North East and her new house doesn't have a garden so she was going to give them away but I couldn't have them going to someone they didn't know so, here I am the proud Mum to my new girls! So for all I have a little knowledge of hen keeping (from lengthy stays with my mum during holidays) I am a novice at actually owning hens I am also Mum to my human babies, James (12) and Amelie (6) and owned by my beautiful black Rex House Rabbit, Shadow. The girls seem to have survived the long journey north ok and are slowly adapting to their new home, Primrose who has always been the skittish one seems to have become more confident and very vocal and Daisy is very quiet and I have seen Primrose be very bossy towards her. I was rewarded for my hard work setting up their new digs (well my Husband did most of it but I'll claim it for now) with an egg this morning, pretty good going considering my Mum has only had 1 since October! So thats me, any settling in advice and help is appreciated, looking forward to my new journey. E x

Enjoy your egg The talent for being happy is appreciating and liking what you have, instead of what you don't have

You are now officially doomed to be a chicken bore for life!
Re: Hello, I'm newThank you all for such a lovely welcome.
I think I'm already turning into a chicken bore, I'm giving little updates every time I go into the school yard, this morning I was more hyped up that the whole infants put together, after finding the egg!! I can see in days to come everyone suddenly becoming engrossed I. conversation to avoid eye contact with me Both girls put themselves to bed ok tonight, Primrose has for the 2 nights previous, left it too late and ended on top of the coop in the dark so when I've gone to check at 5:00 I've had to lift her in. As you can imagine for a hen that will do anything to avoid being touched, she's not keen! E x
