A Second LifeA Second LifeHi all,
I've decided to keep this diary, because last year saw my health fail to an almost terminal level, and as a result had to give my chickens and their sumptuous coop to my brother as I couldn't look after them at the time. All through last year I built my health and energy back up to beyond their previous levels and just before Christmas decided that I would get some chickens again after constructing a coop myself out of what I could find around our smallholding. This is nearing completion, and although one of the more weird looking coops I've ever seen, I am quite pleased with it. When it is totally complete, I will post some photos on here, along with the the new girls when we get them. Never expect the enemy to be where you expect them to be!!
Re: A Second LifeHi Draygor, great news on starting up a diary! It's a great way of keeping track plus getting to know some people (and their flocks) a bit better. We love hearing about chicken adventures so I'm really looking forward to seeing your pics and hearing your tales.
Why don't you post some 'in progress' pics of the coop? And what are you thinking of getting, chicken wise? Karen

Can I post them here, or will I have to post them in the members coop pictures forum? Never expect the enemy to be where you expect them to be!!
Re: A Second Lifeglad to hear you feel up to starting up keeping chickens again - looking forward to seeing the piccies
why not post in here which is your diary You can always post in the members coop pictures as well
Re: A Second LifeHi Draygor
Post them here in your diary, it's the best place for keeping track. If you look through most of our diaries you'll see they are crammed with pictures. Members coop photos tends to be just for coop ideas. Just a note - you can't actually post pictures on DTL, you have to use a hosting site like photobucket or flickr from where you then post the link. Saves Richard's storage space and bandwidth. Richard has done a video on how to do it but I can't find it! Karen

Very strange looking coop!!
Most of the stuff came from our previous property, e.g. the main structure was originally our old dog kennels. https://www.dropbox.com/s/z0lb6ckgndpi0e9/20160126_123352.jpg?dl=0 Most of the coop and run have very strong dog proof mesh on the bottom, so that wherever I move the coop, the chickens will always be on fresh grass. https://www.dropbox.com/s/5opewtkx04owq3f/20160125_104010.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/g5wkudr2ctv67vz/20160126_123159.jpg?dl=0 These are the other photos I took, if anyone has any questions or comments I'll gladly reply. https://www.dropbox.com/s/7xymsf532i7tpt2/20160125_103934.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/h6yftpzbivk7akh/20160125_103946.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/ktrcmtny1kg2cb9/20160125_103954.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/fispqh8c0tslr13/20160126_123049.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/0lhllqaerqh641d/20160126_123111.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/n2zrnft0o6ppgph/20160126_123207.jpg?dl=0 P.S. getting the new chooks this Friday. P.P.S. Not sure how to put actual photos on here without taking up Richard's storage space, so if anyone can tell me that would be great. Never expect the enemy to be where you expect them to be!!
Re: A Second LifeYou have been busy.
Richard is always busy too - altering this site so that I can't find the thread where it tells you how to do pictures (and even when I did it wasn't quite the same depending on the browser) Enjoy the new hens. Dance caller. http://mo-dance-caller.blogspot.co.uk/p/what-i-do.html
Sunny Clucker enjoyed Folk music and song in mid-Cheshire Re: A Second LifeJust a quick update, the wood of the coop has all been treated, and any gaps between joints sealed, I pulled it outside today for a few hours in the torrential rain that's falling here in Powys. A small amount of water came in, and that hole was sealed.
We were getting the new chickens today, but with the weather as it is, we decided not to get them today and will wait until it's a finer day. I'll post an update when we get them. Never expect the enemy to be where you expect them to be!!
Re: A Second LifeAll the very best Draygor for your new flock, and for your health.
Re: A Second LifeGlad to hear your health has improved now, and how wonderful that you are returning to chicken keeping
About posting pics, I use photo bucket. Upload your pics to there, then click on the photo you want to post. There are 3 or 4 links next to it, and you need to copy the img link and then just paste it in your post. Although it looks like a link, when you submit (or preview) he photo will show. Helen xx

Re: A Second LifeFound Richard's post!
Scroll down to the second post on this thread - the instructions and a little video about posting pics from photobucket are there: viewtopic.php?f=25&t=54027 Good job you've found all your leaks, the weather we've been having you don't want that to happen with chickens in it. If you're doing a fixed run, my advice is to make it walk in height as it's so much easier for you to clean and maintain - they don't mind but you will. Actually, they do like some height so they can have branches to perch on and such. And above all - cover it, even if its just with tarp, as the run floor getting soaking is no fun either. Have you decided what breeds you're getting? Karen
