For the second time in 2 weeks I've been moving plants to protect them from a storm which is forecast }hairout{ .. I'm determined not to lose my courgettes and basket tomatoes to the wind and heavy rain ..so I've moved the tomatoes onto the chairs under the veranda..
Image

and the courgettes are in the greenhouse .. bit of a squeeze but at least they will be safe till the storm passes..
Image

It won't be too long before we'll be having meals from the new raised bed ..
The beetroot is swelling nicely..
Image

The chard is growing really fast now..
Image

The carrots are growing well too .. we've already had some thinnings ..
Image

also picked plenty of parsley, thyme, coriander, dill and salad leaves .... really pleased to have had so much produce in the short space of time since it's been built )t'

So batten down the hatches, and fingers crossed that this storm passes without any damage for everyone. >fi<

Better safe than sorry but wouldn't you think we were past having to dash in and out with tubs to protect our crops ? Hope the stuff you cant move stands up to the weather Jannie.

It's a while since I've posted on here but I have to say despite the dreadful weather the garden is doing ok.
Everyday for the last few 2 weeks I've managed to pick a small dish of fruit for desert.
Image

.. though I have to be honest and say that a lot of fruit has rotted on the plants. }hairout{ .. I have counted 11 plums and all the pears have disappeared .. there is 1 apple tree that has a good crop but the others have only small amounts of fruit ..so there's not going to be a lot of fruit to freeze this year. )gr:

The veg seems to be thriving ..
Today's harvest which we'll have with some boiled ham from the farm across the road..
Image

The courgettes have done really well again this year .. though I have been moving them under cover to avoid the worst of the rain..
Image

The beetroot is loving being in the raised bed
Image

and the runner beans have started setting .. though a little worried that we're not getting enough dry weather to allow the bees out to pollinate .. they were out in force yesterday so fingers crossed. >fi<
Image

and to finish off for today a pic of the finished courtyard project which we began at the start of this diary. :-D

The courtyard garden looks beautiful Jannie!

I do hope Perchy Pants isn't a bit envy}}
Your courtyard plan has worked really well Jannie you and OH must be pleased with it. Its funny saying about the beans not setting, I grew a different variety of broad bean this year and they have been really good (must check the seed packet for the future) really strong and full of flowers but I can't see any beans setting on them , usually I mist things to help but think its the last thing the plants need - as yoiu say they need the pollinators to be doing there job.
It will be alright in the end , if its not alright, it isn't the end .

Isn't this what grow you're own is all about ..

..home grown chard, carrots, beetroot and potatoes .. which I served with very local lamb chops. )eat(

Image

followed with a big dish of home grown berries served with home made icecream made from local cream.
Image

.. as we sat down to eat I thought 'this is how the food we eat should be ..everything from the garden or within a couple of miles of home' )t'
