Next box and floor materials?

Post by Spreckly »

We are wondering what to put in our nest boxes and on the hut floor. At present we have put straw in the boxes, but nothing on the floor.

I have read that some people use wood shavings for the boxes.

What would be the best material to put on the hut floor?

I put straw in the nest boxes and wood shavings in the main part of the coop.
Our coop is in a shed, so on the shed flooring we put newspaper down just so it's easier to clean =)

In the nest boxes you could use chopped straw (not hay!), and or shredded paper, also like you said, wood shavings are ok (so long as they have the dust extracted!).

I use easibed in both the main part of the coop and the nest boxes. I find it much easier to poo pick from than either wood shavings or straw although I do put a bit of straw on top in the nest boxes when the weather is cold )t'
