Re: Red, Sore Bottom/Backend...

I am pleased to say, the lovely lady this post was about is still with us over 2 years later :-) Out of the 5 ex batts i began with, she is the only one who we still have, just goes to show that sometimes those who look more 'worse for wear' when they leave the farms somehow are maybe stronger? She ...

Re: Can i pick everyones brains please?

thanks for the replies. Totally Scrambled - i'll reply to your bullet points. 1/ i agree there would be fights, but it would be a slow integration to try and minimise it, ie, smaller run/coop in the larger area, then when let out with the others, extra fee stations put out etc. 2/ So far i have 3 ad...

Re: suitable flooring for run

3 of my runs are on concrete and i decided to go with rubber chippings, fab for summer, once the rain comes along though, a strange rubber chip pooey gooey slippy mess! the idea of hosing them off doesnt work as well as it should sadly! these runs are not covered as they are in a very windy spot and...

Re: Electric Poultry Netting

Thanks for the reply, I hadn't thought about using it double around the bottom :) I am not sure how it would work with the current but once its all unravelled etc I may give it a go and see if it works (and that the 2nd net layer doesn't earth it etc). I don't want to have to clip wings if at all po...

Re: Grass in a fixed run

the grass pellets really are rock solid, usual horse and pony cubes you can break down with your finger but these are really solid, i'll have to take pics and see how they like it :)

Re: IVERMECTIN 1%

I actually was looking at the harka-mectin the other night but pretty much all the sites I went on that sold it said how it isn't licensed for hens and as such they cant give dosage info etc, one said to read their reviews and lots of people had written about 2 drops on hens ;)

Re: What to use in run

I've been trying out the rubber chips recently on a concrete base area of the run, so far, very easy to clean, water does sit under the rubber in one area (due to the concrete not being fully level etc) but it isn't noticeable unless you move the rubber. The hens don't seem to mind it and have just ...

Electric Poultry Netting

Hi, I have managed to buy some used electric poultry netting, approx. 400m of it so I was told (there is masses of the stuff!), I obviously need to do the tedious task of unwinding it all and seeing if/where there is damage, if so if it can be repaired etc but does anyone have any advice about using...

Re: Has just rushed into buying incubator, 1st timers, advic

Hi, The 3rd one does seem ok - hope I haven't just jinxed it! I have 24 eggs in it at the moment. 12 Pekin bantam eggs, 6 'green' eggs and 6 'lucky dip' eggs so they range from pure white through to dark brown. I had an accident at weekend and dropped a pekin egg when candling it. It cracked badly a...

It arrived later than i had hoped, but it was still just in the school holidays for the boys, but, it didnt work :( the seller said it worked when she last used it etc so maybe mr courier man-handled it a little too roughly! So... i have bought a 60 egg brand new one! (oooops ...

Re: My bargain!

I also LOVE it :-)

The 1st coop we had (and still have but its unused) i painted in fake brickwork, hubby thought i was mad, it took me hours and it looked fab... until the winter when they decided to splash mud up onto it lol
