Re: Does passing a lash lead to death?

Hi Benny&Co,

I believe it's part of their reproductive system that can be shed for some reason. Illness, infection or menopause from what I've read.

She seems okay and is pottering about as usual.

Birds are so weird eh?

Does passing a lash lead to death?

One of my hens passed a lash this morning. I strongly suspect that it was my three year old cochin. Can hens continue healthily after this occurs, or will it somehow kill her? I don't mind about not getting eggs as she's a pet and my favourite hen.

Re: Cats wandering

Thank you everybody.

If I do get another cat it'll be a female and will be confined to the house overnight. I'll figure out a way of timing the evening feed then just lock the catflap because my other cat never goes out at night (her choice).

Re: Cats wandering

Sorry that you lost your boys manda. Do your girls tend to just hang about the place and not go off at night? Both my boys were killed by the morning traffic on their way home. They did used to come back at about 5am which was fine, but as the summer went on it began to get later and later in the mo...

Re: Cats wandering

I wouldn't be able to keep a cat indoors all the time because the back door is open constantly with the kids coming and going.

I could probably manage to keep it in overnight. My eldest cat never goes out at night.

Cats wandering

My youngest cat has been knocked over and killed by a car on the dual carriageway This is the second cat that's been killed this way. They were both young males who'd been neutered at 6 months old. I have a female rescue cat and she's never wandered away from the immediate vicinity. She was neutered...

Re: Please, please I need lawn advice!

We are thinking of buying some turf for the larger patches. I honestly don't think the birds are eating it because when I go out to water it, it's still there. Just sitting there doing nothing. I have fed the birds on the birdtable to try and keep them happy. My husband has sprinkled some lime down ...

Please, please I need lawn advice!

Please, I am desperate DH treated the front lawn with moss and weed killer and it now has bald patches all over it. He's sprinkled grass seed down on the patches and raked them in. They've been watered and watered and watered, but they never seem to germinate. He grew some grass seeds in a tray for ...

Nothing yet >coc<

I'm sorry, she must have gone off the radar. I hope the chickens get sorted out one way or another, but preferably not involving a soldering iron.

Re: Need home for three hens in East Midlands area

Pretty urgent I think. The woman said that her mother was feeling bad about having them rehomed and I'm worried that she resorts to having their beaks blunted. Apparently, the local farmer said it was fine to do this with a soldering iron! I don't want the mother to back out of having them rehomed, ...
