Update: Mum happy with no red mite and......... so far ......... 2 chicks have hatched and 4 more have pipped so not bad out of 10 and it looks like there may be 1 or 2 more that will hatch too but will only give them till Friday as 21days was Wednesday. One of my girls became brooch a couple of weeks ago so thought we would let her have some fertile eggs to sit on. Great she's been fab - maybe a little to great... Looking peeky on her comb, eggs have 7 more days to go. I've been cleaning to coop out regularly but have been leaving her in peace - oh...

Thanks guys I have tried vet chem flea spray and it didn't seem to touch them. I also frontlined my girls - they dont lay any more so no need to worry about eggs - they little blitters were still there!! I have been puffing the girls and there run/house on a regular basis and in fairness the numbers...

red mite

I am tearing my hair out over these nasty little creatures.

I have poultry shielded my house and then diatom both house and girls but they still have them on them. I have even found these things on the plastic water feeder!!

I dont think they are red mite, I've not seen any red ones!

I googled red mite and they don't fit the bill, they look like the fake widow spiders only less than 1mm big. This is what I thought they were to start with.

My phone wont take a clear pic.

Ridged Eggs

I have had my girls about 5 weeks and they have all been laying for the last 3. The eggs however come layed with ridges on the top like they sat on them too long? Someone told me it may be just because they re still settleing in? Anybody else get this?

Hen Wars!!!

I got my 3 ex batts last Saturday and thought all was going well, with one of them as head hen and the other 2 getting on with it.......... My head hen now wont let either of my other 2 out of the coop and into the run I am a little concerned that the hen at the bottom of the hierachy is not getting...

Thanks for your replys.

I have added a little poutry spice (about half a teaspoon and this instructions say 1 teaspoon for 10 hens)

Not too worried about eggs they are just an added bonus. Will post pictures soon xx

Ok got my girls yesterday afternoon they are very well covered for ex batts and large!! Even the peeps helping out with the rescue said they were large!! Getting my chickens tomorrow, some last minute panic....

I have 1 feeder and 1 water dispenser, I have layers mash, corn and grit. Ok .... now for the silly question.... I put the mash in the feeder, feed the corn as a treat? and feed the grit in a seprate dish?? Am I right?? I really dont think I will sleep tonight. Is anyone else getting their girls fro...

The floor in the run is made up of old patio slabs and mud!! I can move the slabs around as the mud get mashed. Also my OH is a Landscape Gardener so I will have a regular roll of turf for the girls to scratch about on!! )t'
