Re: 4 X-Battery Hens Free to Good Home

Thanks to somebody local the hens have gone to a wonderful home and are living in the lap of luxury, they have a cockeral so they are finally living a life they deserve. Not going to stop me missing them though, quite a few times I have gone to the door with scraps of food and shouted them {cry}

Re: Deformed Chicks.

Today has been a great day, all 4 chicks are doing very well, our chick desided he wanted to sunbathe, he had a drink then something to eat then flopped and started preening I thought it was the most wonderful and moving thing I've seen in ages. He has no idea of the torment that the other chicks (b...

Re: Deformed Chicks.

I've decided to keep him, I've told the lady who I got them from that one didn't make it and she's bringing me 3 more without charge and they do not have deformities. I am so looking forward to them coming. I had somebody look at the dead one and they said it was suffering from pasting up. I have ne...

I have some sad news, the smallest of the chicks died this afternoon, it was developing very slowly where as the other chick is growing very well but I am worried for him/her. It seems to be very clingy now and calls for me when I have finished feeding him/her. The chick is 3 weeks old now will the ...

Re: Deformed Chicks.

Thank you to LynneP and Jen you both deserve a medal for the advice you have given me. I am so glad I didn't have to have them culled as soon as I saw them I fell in love with them. I will sort them both out today oh!! and the quivering has stopped in the bigger chick but I will still give them the ...

Re: Deformed Chicks.

That's fantastic news, they do get about really well and are certainly not suffering, I do know where Grannyof4 is coming from as it did cross my mind whether we are keeping them alive for our benefit. I was reading on another forum that a lady had some chicks that screamed when she touched their li...

Re: Deformed Chicks.

Thank you for your advice. Bettysue they were hatched in an incubator, all the others were fine it's just these 2. Jen I am willing to try anything if it helps them. I have touched and gently moved the leg and claw to test whether it is painful for them as yet it does not seem to bother them. I will...

Deformed Chicks.

Hi All, I have just been given 2 2 week old chicks but they both have what appears to be a deformed leg/claw. They are both healthy feeding and drinking well and going to the loo. I am feeding and watering them every 3-4 hours from 7-30am to 7-30pm when they settle down for the night, I have them in...

Re: Poorly Chicken - Well Again

Yes we're feeling much better now thank you Sandy, all the hens have gone into moult, today we decided to move the compost bin as it was up against the fence and they can jump onto it with ease and I'm sure they can get over the fence. So we moved it and low and behold there was a perfectly formed e...

Poorly Chicken - Well Again

Friday afternoon both my hubby and I was facing the worst day of our lives, Laura our ex-battery hen had distanced herself from the group, her comb had flopped to one side just about covering her face, she wasn't interested in eating or drinking, she had fluffed herself up and had her head into her ...
