Re: I have lost another girl

Hi Stace

I got them on the 1st May and they were laying straight away so it is almost a year. They all stay together in the garden and I have not noticed any bullying. The one that has not grown her bum feathers back since august has a bright red bum but it does not look pecked.

I have lost another girl

I have been keeping chickens for a year in May and it has not gone well. I lost my first, Sophia in August because of bullying, I took her to the vet and I was told she had to be put to sleep because she had lost so much weight. I lost another after she got an egg stuck due to her vent being damaged...

One of my girls on her last legs.

Our chicken has been ill. We have recently spent hundreds of pounds on vets as first one was bullied, fell ill and had to be put down. The 2nd one then suffered a stuck egg which we eased out but she was then bullied and also had kidney problems. We have had her isolated and taking antibiotics but t...

Need advice

Since having our little Sophia put to sleep all seemed to be fine with my other five girls and I thought all the pecking had stopped. One of them that was really pecked badly got an egg stuck about three months ago which we removed with some olive oil, her feathers are growing back but she has not l...

Re: Mr. Fox

I have a fox in my garden daily normally sleeping. He takes no notice of the hens. I only let them out into the garden when I can stay out with them though.

So sad

I thought ouw little Sophia was on the mend as she was coming out of the house and eating a little and walking around the garden but she had diarrhoea and had lost lots of weight. I took her to the vet and he said that there was nothing he could do and gave her a week or two. He said it would be kin...

Egg stuck - Please help

Hi All, After a week of bullying by a now seperated Hen one of my girls is wandering around with an egg half in and half out. It is messy and bloody and I need some advise on how we can remove it. We have stood her in a bowl of warm water for a few minutes but this did distress her and she struggled...

Re: What is going on

I have stopped crying and I'm hoping the tar will do the trick. I painted their bottoms yesterday before bed. This morning I let them all into the run and then sat and watched them from the house. One of the two that still have feathers was pecking all of them so I removed her for the day and recove...

Re: What is going on

I feel very tearful and frustrated today. I covered the hens in anti peck spray and it seemed to be working except on my poor ISA Brown, they were all pecking her and she was yelping in pain so I have removed her again. I have just got back from buying some Stockholm tar to cover the other three bar...

What is going on

Carying on from my last post about one of my chickens not being well and her feathers missing from her bum, I have found this afternoon that three of my Sussex Stars now have bald bums. Do I have a bully??? I have checked for red mite and I don't have it. Apart from the sick hen which I have taken a...

At a loss

I have Two ISA Browns and Four Brown Sussex Stars. I put them all in the coop together at the start of May when I got them at Point-of-Lay. The darkest ISA was bullied for a bit but then it settled down. When we had the really hot weather in june she went off her food and seemed out of sorts for a f...

Hi Wendy

The egg shell was very brittle but it had a lovely yolk. I will try the olive oil and live yogu

Thanks

Worried

One of my isa Browns has laid a white egg this morning instead of a brown one. When she was let out into the garden she went straight under a bush and just stood there for about ten minuits and now she has laid down and gone to sleep. This is very out of character. Is she ill?
