Re: Veg Gardening In a Tiny Space

I also have limited space but i have spent some time thinking about the permaculture idea where you go up instead of out, as an example i have a brick pillar about 18 inches across and about 10 ft tall, in over 20 years all its ever had is an ornamental planted in a pot at the base and a hanging bas...

Re: The Edible Garden

I have watched both episodes so far and learnt something from each one, the first was planting dried peas (we call them steepy peas up here) and harvesting the growing tips, the second was that you can eat radish sead pods and what did i do with mine last year, yep, threw them on the compost heap, i...

Re: Pease pudding

No probs Ma, hope it goes well for you, if it is too dry (and it can be) just add a little water and use a potatoe masher to mix it till its the way you like it. Someone mentioned a ham shank, you can also use bacon off cuts that some butchers/supermarkets sell of cheap, just bought 6 packs at Morri...

Re: Pallet Box to Flower Box

Hi Taz, just made something the same but smaller. I am growing veg in what used to be an ornamental raised bed but i am having trouble keeping my dog from doing what he knows best, (raising his leg at every vertical surface he can find). Using old pallet wood i made a long box and when placed on the...

Re: Pease pudding

Hi Ma, place the split peas into a double thickness of muslin and tie the four corners with string, use a bow knot as this will make life easier later on, leave plenty of room in the bag for the peas to swell. Place the bag into a large pot with a ham shank, i remove most of the fat to try and cut d...

Re: Stolen

I have started on my 2012 wood pile and pallets will be the bulk of the store with neighbours felled trees as a bonus. I have found that DIY stores are only too willing to let you have their pallets as it costs them to dispose of the items, as the saying goes (shy bairns get nowt), cheers Dave NE

Re: Beating the butterflies

I was in the garden yesterday and noticed there were 7 butterflys having a go at my cabbage and kale, to be honest, i cant remember seeing so many BFs in one year. My neighbours garden is in full flower but they ignored his patch and came into mine like guided missiles. I had mixed some washing up l...
