Re: What's wrong with Roxy?

Little Roxy went up to chicken heaven this morning. So sad {cry} as she was doing so well after her stroke.

Re: What's wrong with Roxy?

Hi Karen We have tried so hard to make the run better for the girls. We have a raised feeding platform and have put down pallets, but nothing seems to make it a good place for them. We have now found another home for the girls which is not far away so will be able to visit. I am so sad to lose them ...

Re: Hens and ducks desperately need a forever home

We have now found a home for all our girls. A lovely lady who I work with has offered to have them which means we will be able to see them whenever we want so it won't be like losing them totally. Thank you all for your suggestions on how to make their run better. We have tried lots of the ideas but...

Re: What's wrong with Roxy?

We have tried bark chippings, sand, ballast but nothing seems to stop the rain from churning up the mud into a smelly quagmire - so awful to see the girls paddling through it. Doesn't bother the ducks though!!

Re: Hens and ducks desperately need a forever home

Hi Kitla Thanks for that. I will certainly check out the link. My only concern is that the girls will end up as Sunday lunch but it is worth looking at .... Still unhappy about having to let our girls go, but can't bear to see them living in the mud. Hopefully will be able to have chooks and ducks a...

Re: What's wrong with Roxy?

I am Sandy. Only sad note is that we now have to find another forever home for the girls as our clay soil makes it an awful condition for them to live in, despite moving the run several times and latterly to the driest part of the garden which is now a quagmire! Can't bear to see them go but can't b...

Re: What's wrong with Roxy?

Thought I'd update the forum on Roxy. Roxy has almost recovered and is getting stronger day by day. Megan, one of our Bluebells, also had the same sort of symptoms and the vet thought it was a viral infection and gave her some antibiotics, but didn't hold out much hope. However, with lots of TLC bot...

Hens and ducks desperately need a forever home

I am so upset to have to ask this, but we are desperately looking for a home for our 15 lovely girls, 12 chooks and 3 ducks. The weather conditions have rendered the whole of our garden into a quagmire and, despite trying everything to keep the chicken run dry, the weather has finally beaten us. We ...

Re: What's wrong with Roxy?

Thanks for all the advice. Unfortunately Sophie didn't make it, but Roxy is getting stronger day by day, so still not sure what it was - maybe a stroke. We have been feeding her separately and she is walking about happily, a little unsteady but so much stronger than before. We wormed them with Flube...

Re: Poorly hen maybe a stroke

Hi We had something similar with Roxy who was all wobbly and kept falling onto her side. We have fed her separately from the other girls and I am delighted to say that she is getting stronger by the day. She now walks around the garden, a little unsteady still, but hops up the steps to the patio to ...

Re: Possibly egg bound?

Her poo is a bit runny and she has some white discharge around her vent. Still eating though so I am hoping that is a good sign.

Re: Possibly egg bound?

Well, gave Sophie a warm belly bath and had a bit of a feel inside, but couldn't tell if there was an egg there. She is eating so I am a bit mystified as to what this is?????

What's wrong with Roxy?

Can anyone help? Roxy is acting almost as if she has had a stroke. She was finding it difficult to stand so we have brought her inside (along with Sophie with the extended belly) to see if things improve. We wondered if she had worms as there were some long threads in her poo, but all the other girl...

Re: Possibly egg bound?

Her belly does feel extended so will certainly try the belly bath. Fingers crossed that Janet and Sophie are feeling better tomorrow. Another problem. Roxy was fine yesterday, but this morning she was crouched down when we let the girls out and is staggering around. She is still very vocal and has e...
