Re: Angora Goats free to a good home

Thought I'd better update the thread. We've got a new home for the goats! Lovely couple from the same county took them where they are settling in really well. Loads more room for them to get about and enjoy themselves. Thanks to all who PM'd their offers of a great home.

Re: Angora Goats free to a good home

Yes they are adorable. I'll post some pics when I figure out how!

I'm happy to meet halfway as I can get a loan of a horse box.

Angora Goats free to a good home

I'm hoping this is in the right place for posting, I have two lovely angora goats that are needing a loving new home! cracking personalities and can be very nosey! Both are female and around 8 years old.. I am having to get them re-homed to someone that will look after and care for them as we have. ...

Re: Cold Chickens

This will be the first winter we've had our exbats and I was starting to get a bit concerned with the heating factor. That was until I read that they've got their own duvets! It's worth taking a peek in the coop to see them all nicely huddled up together and you should feel the heat that comes out o...

Re: Avacado

Nice chart - it states the skin and pit have low levels of toxicity so is the flesh okay if you scoop it out?

Re: Avacado

Where did you read the info on advocados? I got some cheap from Asda so will hold back. As to lettuce, we hand this out with no problems so far. I know that this can cause humans problems if you each too much (lots and lots) so it must be the same for chooks. Again, if the quantity is small then eve...

Re: please check my shopping list

You forgot:

Try to get them home when its dark (easier at this time of year) and put them straight into the coop. Close all doors and windows and they'll settle within half and hour.

Best part of your shopping list:

They are hardier than you think

Good luck, Keith

Re: ex batties free ranging?

Don't worry about them too much as they are very good at getting home again. Just make sure its nice and dark as they will continue to stay out if there's a light on. We had security lighting (street lamp type) and wondered why we had to put them to bed everynight! I took the bulb out and they went ...

Re: Geese - babies!!

We've just taken 4 rescued geese in (1 gander) and I'm starting to see that they only lay from Spring to Autumn. Do I need to try and remove the eggs ASAP so they don't turn into babies? Or does mum quite happily leave the eggs to be collected?

Thanks

Re: Everything has to go..

Sorry to hear that you need to lose the chickens. We don't have a problem with rats because we have 5 cats and 2 Jack Russells. I haven't seen a rat yet and that's 4 years since we moved in. Anyway, might be an idea to put the first part of your postcode on so people can see where you are. Cheers Ke...

Chooks favourite treat?

I thought it would be good fun to hear what your Chickens really really really like so to kick off this thread, here's what we have found so far: An apple makes them go daft - one grabs it and the rest give chase like a benny hill type of caper....... I'll need to get a video of this cause it's got ...

Re: I have declared war!!!!!

Anytime a bird attempts to land in the run they get chased by the chooks so they are their own guard dogs er chickens I mean..... Also, we have a bird feeder / peanut and fatball stand that is in the run. It stands about 6 foot tall so could this be helping to keep the birds away from the chicken fe...

Re: NEWBIE HERE

We couldnt believe how quickly our 10 ex-bats settled in. It's amazing that at their age they still know exactly what to do when free ranging after all the time they have been in a battery. My opinion and by reading through other posts, it appears to be easier to look after the ex-bats as they tell ...

Re: roasting shells.. the hows and whats??

We've been using a combination of the shells and the bought grit. Shells: All used shells are left in an oven proof dish ready to be put into the oven preferbly when there is something else in the oven cooking - scottish and tight or just frugal? The shells are then broken down in a bag but not too ...
