Re: How soon we forget

Thanks a lot Helen (and everybody else) I'm sure I'll get the hang of it. Actually, I seem to have accidentally uploaded a pic on another thread (What coop's best?) when I was just trying to leave a link. I'm sure your instructions will be very useful, thanks again, Dunc. Hi dunc If you have uploade...

Re: which coop's best?

I started with the bog standard pet shop type coop with integral run but it wasn't ideal so I started looking around and came across this site m" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href...

Re: How soon we forget

Ok. I have now spent a good hour trying, unsuccessfully, to upload a couple of pics. Maybe I'll wait til my 10 year old granddaughter comes over and get her to do it (prob take her about 30 seconds). In the meantime I have put a couple of pics on a web album which, hopefully, you can see by clicking...

Re: How soon we forget

Thanks all. Yes we were at the rehoming day. Three of the chooks are not too bad. They all have feathers missing from their chests and tails which is to be expected. The other one is a slight worry though. I could see she had a bare bum (excuse the language) and was pretty bare underneath as well bu...

How soon we forget

We received another four rescued batts on Saturday to add to the three we have had since june 2009 and the three bantams we acquired when somebody did a runner and abandoned 40 odd chickens. I was convinced that the new arrivals were a different hybrid from our original girls because they have white...

Re: Wing clipping advice

Personally, I don't think I'll go for wing clipping. i think there must be another solution. However, I did find quite a good vid on youtube which makes it look pretty straightforward and may be of interest. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kLaGpczNhEI" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: girls kicking up a fuss!

I guess we must have been really lucky as far as eggs are concerned. We had one in the box when we brought them home and we seem to have had either 2 or 3 (from 3 ex-batts) every day since.

What a difference a month makes.

This is one my ex-batts, Cynthia. We got her on 13th June and it's great to see, exactly one month later, how well the feathers are coming in on her, once oven ready, chest.

Nail Clipping Update

Some of you may remember i posted a few days ago about advice on clipping very long nails of my 3 ex-batts. I can now categorically report that this procedure is totally unnecessary. Having abandoned the nail clipping after one nail (see previous post) I now find that after 3 or 4 weeks of scraping ...

Re: Nail Clipping

Ok thanks all, I think I'll try just leaving them for now. They freerange in my garden and do a lot of scratching around on different surfaces (grass, dirt, slabs, pebbles) so maybe they'll just grind down naturally. As i say, it doesn't seem to be a problem for them, judging by the way they run to ...

Nail Clipping

Hi folks, I'm really glad I found this site as I'm sure one (or more) of you will be able to help me. We recently obtained 3 ex-batts which were a little worse for wear but have improved in leaps and bounds in the 2 weeks which we have had them. They all have very long nails , however, due to a life...
