Re: "She"

Thank you! I must admit I feel a little lost now with no wood to hand. Yes there's the forest nearby but you just can't carve figures from green timber (plus it's hard to get it to shape with only a few carving tools!) but hopefully it won't be too long till my new batch arrives. I've decided to st...

Re: "She"

I'm afraid these ones have all sold but I am planning on making more, just waiting for the wood from the suppliers :) I usually do them around 3 or 4 inches tall. That's a good size for the wood I can get. If you are after a particular thing I can do commission work, just let me know what you want a...

"Languid Repose"

Sister piece to "She", again 3" x 1.5" x 0.5". The colour is better matched on the light background but the grain shows better on the black. http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g44/Grimnirsalias/Carvings/th_IMG_1125.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g44/Grimnirsalias/Carvi...

Re: First attempts at figure carving - PIC HEAVY

:) I tried clay, wasn't that hot at it. It's sort of the opposite skillset to carving. With wood you take away anything that isn't on the desired carving, with clay you add to the base until you get what you want. Sometimes I wish I could add a bit back lol but no can do!

Re: First attempts at figure carving - PIC HEAVY

The inspiration originally came from a friend who'd done a beautiful painting to celebrate her pregnancy with her last child. I'd wanted to try my hand at figure carving for some time but hadn't got the nerve. When I decided to try it I remembered her painting and decided to try a carving of a pregn...

First attempts at figure carving - PIC HEAVY

I've been wanting to do a full torso for some time and finally got up the nerve over the last couple of days. These 2 ladies are about 3" tall. The first one I did is the one on the base and while I was very pleased with her there were a few things wrong, so I did her sister as well. I decided ...
