Re: Fresh Start for Hens - Saturday 31st January

Hi,
Have been on the fresh start for hens website but it says reservations are closed. Could someone tell me when there will be more hens available please. Am interested in 4 hens to put with my last 2 from little hen rescue.
Thanks,
Helen.

Buying Baytril

Is there any way to buy Baytril on line without a vet presciption for it? I took a chook to the vets a few months ago but I dont have a chicken expert vet and whatever is wrong he says lets try some Baytril, I persuaded him to write me a prescription, ordered it online, only £25 for 100ml, but its n...

Greasy looking head?

My choocks seem to recently have developed greasy looking feathers on their heads around the comb. Has anyone seen this before? I have looked for 'pests' on them but no sign, I do use diatom and johnsons flea powder in their nest area but although I have had the birds for 18 months have never seen t...

Re: Red Mites?

Went to vets yesterday and got some pipettes of ivermectin drops 0.8%, used them on each bird yesterday and this morning inspected and couldn't find anything alive at all. Hooray, we are free from crawlies, at the mo. Have to destroy the eggs for a week and then repeat the treatment in 2 weeks but t...

Red Mites?

I thought we were free from red mite. I clean out the coop every day and remove old straw and replace then use lashings of diatom powder in each nest box. However some of my girls were looking a bit ropey lately, hubby said they were probably just getting hen pecked etc but I wasn't convinced. Last ...

Chuck behaving oddly

I noticed yesterday afternoon one of my girls behaving oddly. She was sat on the floor of the pen with her eyes shut. I approached her and she got up, was wobbly and started doing a strange walk. Lifting her legs up high with each step, and seems a bit wobbly. She stopped and stood with her eyes shu...

Treats.

I am still new to chucks! Got my 8 girls mid Nov last year from Little Hen Rescue, Norwich. Cannot tell you how much they have entertained us since their arrival. They used to run away from us but now are cheeky little angels. I am a bit disappointed on the treat side of things, I have read with int...

Ex Batt with odd beak.

We have had our 8 ex batts nearly 2 weeks now and I have noticed that one of the girls has an odd beak. It seems that the lower half is longer than the upper half and so it doesn't meet properly. I do hope she can eat properly, they all go at their food, and she has a fullish crop. Does she need a v...

New Chicken owner!

Well I did it. Went to Little Hen Rescue on Saturday and got 8 hens. They are beautiful and very amusing. Just have couple of small problems. First one is that te girls have a lovely time in the enclosure but wont go to bed at night. We have had to catch all 8 and put in the coop on both nights. The...

Treating the coop

Am new to this site, just been lurking. We have been busy building an enclosure and have had a coop built for us. I am keen to treat the coop before we get any birds. I have read somewhere that old fashioned creosote is good to treat the inside and outside as it deters mites. I also read somewhere t...
