Thanks for the input guys, looks like they will be indoors for another week or two. Have checked the temp in my bubble wrapped tent and it is 10 deg F warmer than outside temp and only went down to 40 deg F overnight so maybe it will stay frost free???? Thanks again for answers

Hi everyone, I have had an ongoing problem during last summer/autumn with feather loss in 3 of my 6 birds and found some mites (not red mite) which I have now eradicated. All the girls have now re-feathered but Mabel has a very bald and very red bottom about the area of a large orange has no plumage...

Thanks for all the advice, I have dusted the girls with mite powder but only 3 of them will let me pick them up and do this so the others have been cornered and generally dusted. They still seem a bit "oven ready" in the plumage department, 3 of them seem OK (the shy ones) and 3 have lots ...

Hi everyone, As briefly as possible, my 6 chooks started to loose feathers in June and I thought it was the moult starting. When I opened up coop to give deep clean /change bedding I was covered in tiny flies/mites, they looked like deplumage mites, nasty wee things and very itchy. I sent for some m...

Hi All, Clara is still broody and i have also noticed that she is limping slightly. She is a hybrid based on a cuckoo maran and has leg feathers (dont know the correct name). These are growing quite long and i think it is these feathers that are effecting her walk, can they be trimmed or better stil...

Hi folks, Still on a steep learning curve with chooks, Clara is about 30 weeks old and has taken to sitting in the nest boxes for long periods. When I checked tonight she was still in there, I lifted the lid (and said "oops sorry girl") and she stayed there and would not move even when I p...

Hi Marc & Sharon,
Welcome to DTL, I am a newbie as well and have had a lot of helpfull tips from this forum (before buying). My six new chooks love all of the above and also any over ripe/soft tomatoes, they rip them up with murderous glee and fight over the seeds.
Enjoy your chooks
