Re: large onions from seed

Thanks for the input guys, looks like they will be indoors for another week or two. Have checked the temp in my bubble wrapped tent and it is 10 deg F warmer than outside temp and only went down to 40 deg F overnight so maybe it will stay frost free????

Thanks again for answers )t'

Mabel's red bum

Hi everyone, I have had an ongoing problem during last summer/autumn with feather loss in 3 of my 6 birds and found some mites (not red mite) which I have now eradicated. All the girls have now re-feathered but Mabel has a very bald and very red bottom about the area of a large orange has no plumage...

update on my flock who abandoned coop

Hi folks, Well it took some time but they have all returned to the safety and warmth of the coop, I didn't do anything just left them to sort it out themselves. First one went in at night then two and now all six are back in. All are re-feathered except one who is still "oven ready" have t...

Re: Girls have abandoned coop

Thanks for all the advice, I have dusted the girls with mite powder but only 3 of them will let me pick them up and do this so the others have been cornered and generally dusted. They still seem a bit "oven ready" in the plumage department, 3 of them seem OK (the shy ones) and 3 have lots ...

Girls have abandoned coop

Hi everyone, As briefly as possible, my 6 chooks started to loose feathers in June and I thought it was the moult starting. When I opened up coop to give deep clean /change bedding I was covered in tiny flies/mites, they looked like deplumage mites, nasty wee things and very itchy. I sent for some m...

CLARA'S BROODY PROBLEM

Hi everyone, It's been some time since I was on the forum but I have just retired so should have more time in future. I am fairly new to chuck keeping my 6 ladies have been here nearly a year now. best way to use chicken poop in the garden

Hi everyone,

As well as being a newby to chicken keeping, I am now the proud owner of an allotment and would appreciate any tips on how to prepare the little darlings droppings to make the best fertiliser.

Thanks in anticipation.

can I trim leg feathers

Hi All, Clara is still broody and i have also noticed that she is limping slightly. She is a hybrid based on a cuckoo maran and has leg feathers (dont know the correct name). These are growing quite long and i think it is these feathers that are effecting her walk, can they be trimmed or better stil...

Is Clara broody???

Hi folks, Still on a steep learning curve with chooks, Clara is about 30 weeks old and has taken to sitting in the nest boxes for long periods. When I checked tonight she was still in there, I lifted the lid (and said "oops sorry girl") and she stayed there and would not move even when I p...

Re: First timers!

Hi Marc & Sharon,

Welcome to DTL, I am a newbie as well and have had a lot of helpfull tips from this forum (before buying). My six new chooks love all of the above and also any over ripe/soft tomatoes, they rip them up with murderous glee and fight over the seeds.

Enjoy your chooks
