Re: 4 Cockerels free to a good home

Hi. I have the same issue. I have 3 cockerels and need to re-home two. I advertised one on here but didn't have any luck unfortunately. I DID find someone on preloved in Nuneaton that takes in any type of chicken/cockerel. It's a rescue centre and they have 10 acres. It seems very good and I am thin...

Maran Bantam cockerel Free (Shropshire)

We bought 5 chickens several weeks ago. One of the Maran's was meant to be a cockerel but hey presto, both are! I need to find one of them a good home. I know it's a big ask. He's free ranging on half an acre at the minute but I appreciate I can't ask for similar! I'd be grateful of any free range h...

Re: Chick off colour

The first thing I thought was Coccidiosis but there were no immediate signs. I have now got Flubenvet but I haven't given any so far as the chick seems normal again today. I'm not sure if the verm-x has worked or not but whatever has happened it's a different chick today. I did massage it's crop but...

Re: Chick off colour

I have ordered Flubenvet. Thanks for the info. There are no blood droppings, I've been looking for that. I do not think my own vet has any experience with chickens. I will give her a ring and find out.

Re: Chick off colour

Thanks for your reply! The head shaking is not every few seconds, but certainly a few times a minute and the chick is doing it whilst siting looking forlorn and fluffed out. I did think of tapeworm.. I'm not sure if the germ-x covers everything or if something would be more suitable. So far no bubbl...

Chick off colour

It's been a while since I posted on here. I haven't had chickens for a couple of years but now have them again (very happy!). I've got 5 chicks. They are about 8 weeks old. I have noticed one of them is standing away from the others (since yesterday) with it's feathers fluffed and generally not look...

Re: My ex-batts need a new home

Thanks for your comments Richard. I have a few months to find them a home. We live very rurally so I have asked locally as everyone has a lot of land and the cockerel would not be a problem. I have also had some positive feedback from here so all is far from lost!

Re: My ex-batts need a new home

I know they do! All I'm trying to do is get the best for my girls and boy at the moment. It took them a long time to settle, lots of fighting initially and then the introduction of the cockerel (which we only had as he was going to be killed). They beat him up for for days!! I've outlined what is th...

Re: My ex-batts need a new home

I'm obviously open to suggestions. My reason for asking that they go on their own is that we have tried to integrate them with a friends chickens and all hell broke loose. They also attack the pheasants that come into the garden. Maybe someone who has kept chickens before is thinking of starting up ...

My ex-batts need a new home

Sadly I need to find a new home for my chooks, 5 ex batts and a very handsome cockerel. They must all go together and MUST be completely free-range and NOT mixing with other hens. They currently have about half an acre to roam in. I also have an eglu cube which can go free of charge with the chooks....

Re: Tumour in Ex Batt

Of course you are right Wendy. It's not that I feel at all hung up about ex batts getting tumours it is purely that I had no idea they did. I looked for everything except that! We had 6 ex batts originally because we felt there was a possibility they may not all survive but they did. I'm happy to gi...

Re: Tumour in Ex Batt

I'm sorry to hear that you too lost an ex batt to a tumour. Looking round the net it seems to be quite common. I do feel very sad about my girl but we have to look at the fact that they have had a lovely time since leaving the shed and no matter how short their liberation, they must have thought the...

Re: Tumour in Ex Batt

Thank you for all your lovely words. You are very very kind. Wendy I really don't know much about Avian Lymphoid Leukosi. Another chicken keeping friend who knows far more than I do mentioned it and I looked it up. I have to say the chook had those symptoms. Of course, it could be one of many other ...

Re: Tumour in Ex Batt

Thank you Wendy. We rescued a cockerel a few weeks ago and I was worried he could be carrying something that has transfered to the hen, but I doubt it. She has behaved oddly from time to time choosing to sit on her own, but I have a couple of hens who are really scatty so I didn't think too much abo...
