Re: paper logsTo give out heat : )
If I burn one envelope or bag/box per day then that is about 250 ish logs that I don't have to source over the winter. Free too - my favourite price.

Re: paper logsI've just stuffed two envelopes. Both were A4 size envelopes but the first was slightly smaller in width - obviously designed to just carry a couple of sheets of a letter and the second was about 3mm wider. The smaller one took about 100 sheets of paper to fill to bursting point and the slightly wid...
Re: paper logsIf you stuff the envelope until it can't hold any more (to exclude as much air as possible), it actually burns for quite a few minutes for a large envelope. I borrowed an expensive metal log maker from a friend to try but it was a lot of hassle and the drying took ages. I decided to save my money an...
Re: Cooking on the woodburnerThanks for the ideas. We know lots of people who have put in woodburners in the last few years. When I mention cooking on it, I always get funny looks. We have discovered just how much effort it is to acquire, cut and store the wood so to me, it makes sense to get the most use possible out of it. La...
Cooking on the woodburnerWe installed a woodburner last winter and it is marvellous. I know it was a milder winter but our gas bills have been cut by almost two thirds in the last year : ) I'd like to cut the bills a bit further so, does anybody else cook on their woodburner? And have you got any suggestions for recipes ple...
Re: paper logsI gave up on trying to dry paper logs made from mush. Now I stuff as much paper into an envelope as it can possibly hold (to eliminate air) and burn it. I'm always surprised just how much an envelope will hold. These burn quite well and I don't have the mush ones sitting around forever to dry.
Re: New fat saving chip pansUpdate:
In the Daily Mail today there is a review of the Actifry and they give it 9/10. I wouldn't put it that high having used it for a year and the lack of durability would make my score lower still. I've read about other people having problems like mine in reviews such as in threads on www.moneysavingexpert.com.
Re: New fat saving chip pansHi Our kids clubbed together and bought us an Actifry last Christmas. I like it and the chips we produce but I don't think I would actually have bought one for myself. We use it about once a month so it has not seen a lot of active service and already the nonstick coating is showing signs of wear. O...
Re: Going to be a frugal march for usHaven't smelled any gas at all so it is probably not a leak. My nose is fairly sensitive to nasty niffs and I haven't smelled gas at all.
i wondered about the CH boiler (heating the water) but that will cost too if I have somebody out to check it.
Re: Going to be a frugal march for usOur gas bill has gone up considerably when compared to the same quarter last year. I'm not talking price here but number of units used. I had the CH on for Christmas Day and other than that it has just come on with the frost stat which is set at 3 degrees because it is in the warmest part of the hou...
