If only they could talk!

Thought your readers might be interested in the following article published on a Chinese web site. As we all know the Chinese are very keen chicken keepers with over 20 chickens for every person in China (that's a lot of eggs). IBM and the electronic giant Fujiatsu have been developing a device to r...

Re: Hens in residential back gardens

Welcome from me as well. I have to say that as we live in a conservation area I had to contact the council to see if there were any issues with keeping chickens in the back garden and the only issues they had would be environmental (smell and noise) and the size of the run (planning permission) As I...

Re: windy day and hens

Very windy here today as well, apart from my two girls running the full length of the garden every time the wind blew, all is normal in the Oxfordshire countryside.

Re: just thinking about getting chickens

Welcome from me too I have only had my ladies for a few days now, so I am no expert but I would agree with all that has been said already. I have wanted to keep chickens for a long time and finally took the plunge a few days ago, they are so fascinating to watch and even the OH is warming to them. h...

TV Dinner!

Well, there we were the OH and me just sat down for our dinner when there was a tap tap tap on the patio door, it was Maggie looking like a lost soul with those big eyes and her head just tilted to one side. I said I think she wants to come in, the OH said don't be silly she was just pecking at her ...

Sweetcorn and wild bird food

My two ladies love corn on the cob hung up in the run, but my question is how much should I give them and is too much harmful to them? As I am new to owning chickens I would welcome your advice on the above and I also hang up fat balls for the wild birds but obviously bits fall on the ground. Should...

Re: I've been brave and let the girls out......

Nice here as well in sunny Oxfordshire, not working today just tidying the garden, so the ladies have been out in the garden with me, made themselves a nice dust bath and both Maggie and Rosie spent ages preening and clucking afterwards. I only let them out for about two hours a day, but feel a bit ...

Re: Fab day with my girls

Glad you've had a 'Fab day' with your girls, sounds quite idylic (except maybe if you are a worm) My ladies have been in the sunshine as well today remodeling the garden, not that I actually wanted them too, but when a lady sets her heart on something, well you know! Is it spring yet? http://www.gar...
