Neighbours can be funny creatures - I asked mine before I got chooks and she said she didn't mind. I've asked her before if my cats are causing her a problem and she said no they're fine. Then I overheard her b1tching to someone else about the dreadful problems caused by my animals!

all-white egg

I think I've seen info on this before but can't find it, so sorry for repetition!

Henrietta laid a small (for her - she lays giants) egg yesterday with a very pale shell. When I cracked it open, there was no yolk. She hadn't laid for about a week beforehand.

What causes this?

My Esmerelda was on 1/2 a frusemide tablet once a day. That almost kept the swelling down but she still needed to be drained once every 4-6 weeks.

She seemed quite contented generally and could still waddle at a fair speed if there were treats involved - porridge oats were her favourite.

I used to have one but workspace is a issue. I have a really small kitchen with very little worktop space and nowhere to wall-mount one without regularly cracking my skull.

I sell to the neighbours for whatever they want to pay. That ranges from £1 for 6 to £2 for 8 depending on who is buying.

mmm Saturday is usually a roast. Chicken this week so Sunday is leftovers and Monday will be chicken & broccoli pie. Tuesday may well be soup!

re mince: I also make my own because the supermarket stuff is the wrong texture. I put casserole steak in the magimix.

...my husband to recycle? At the moment we have separate bins for compostable waste, glass & cans, paper, everything else. I'm also trying to store plastic bottles and cardboard drinks cartons because I can take them to the recycling point myself. However, this has been declared "too compli...

Hi Dee, one of mine had the same problem. Fusemide helped slow the retention and if she got too swollen the vet would use a syringe to drain the fluid. She seemed fine otherwise and not in pain, happily joined in the scrum for porridge oats every evening. (Unfortunately the poor girl couldn't waddle...

This was 10am in broad daylight. The fox showed no fear of me so I think it has been fed by humans. It looked a bit raggy, but not starving. (Although it tried to escape via the pond which wasn't a smart move).

It'll learn to be scared of me.

I lost a chook to a fox this morning. My gut reaction was about killing the fox but when it looked at me it was as if it was saying - what do you expect me to do? I'm a fox. We'll work on making their enclosed run bigger. This fox isn't scared of humans so I think it must be being fed somewhere. It'...

Fox

We had a fox in the garden this morning. It killed Esmerelda the ex-batt (who was ill and couldn't move fast enough) and got a mouthful of Krissie feathers before I chased it off. They are not free-ranging any more. The fox came back twice whilst I was in the garden and isn't very scared of me. Yet.

I had a wooden coop - I didn't see any red mites until I unscrewed a couple of the joints. All the tiny gaps where 2 pieces of wood were joined together were crammed full of red mites.

We don't actually use artificial lighting much. Sounds a bit odd but OH is quite sensitive to light at times.
