Re: Old Radio memories

Sunday afternoons with pick of the pops with Alan freeman. Kenneth Williams as rambling Sid Rumpo, ( one for the splod upon my rod, hiding my cord-wangle ). And who could forget Saturday morning children's favourites with uncle Mac, playing songs like The ballad of Davy Crockett, big John and the de...

Django unchained.............

Jus bought this last week and watched it yesterday. Loved it!!!!!!! Quentin Tarantino at his very best. And a cowie to boot , what's not to love? A bang up to date western, with lots of gun play and a brilliantly hateful Samuel L Jackson cameo. Buy it, it will not disappoint. Adios me compadres........

Re: Gone !

I started to read the final book in this 6 book series at about 7pm last night. I slipped into our bedroom at 3.20 am this morning, having finished the book. Donna M was quietly burbling away, and as I gently pulled back the duvet and slipped silently into bed I thought yes, I've made it. But just as...

Gone !

Have had a mammoth reading session this last week. Surprisingly the novel that I have been reading is a youth orientated story, with absolutely no bad language, (how refreshing). The series of 6 novels starts with a novel called Gone! By Michael Grant. The story starts with a group of children, all ...

Re: I was wrong........

An often used cliche is unputdownable. In my opinion Lee Child's Jack Reachers books are just that. The last one that I read, Sixty One Hours, was a 13 hour session with a cracking good read. With Reacher, justice is always swift and merciless, and no bad guy is left unpunished. Reacher novel no 20 ...

I was wrong........

A while back I did a post about the long awaited Jack Reacher movie. Having read all of Lee Childs, Reacher novels, I doubted Tom Cruise's casting as the 6' 5", 240 lb Reacher. Well, I was wrong. The 5' 7" 140 lb actor, in my opinion pulled the role off quite admirably, with just the right...

Extremely average....... Killing Hemingway

In my never ending thirst for all things woodworking, I came across a blog by a hobbyist woodworker named Brian D Meeks. His blog is called Extremely Average. Apart from woodworking, he writes novella's, short stories by another name. I have been following his writing for a little while, and I reall...

She has turned into a demon from hell. She won't let go of the gas and air, and to top it all she has just kicked me in the spuds.

A tip for walking around in icy conditions........

Before I started my gas fitting apprenticeship, I had a job as a coalman to earn a bit of money after college. This was also my winter weekend job until I could work overtime at 18. If you can imagine trying to keep upright on sheet ice whilst carrying hundredweight sacks of coal on my back, well it...

Re: Pallet Question

Hi Richard, a while back I was a member of a fly fishing club, and all our fishing platforms were over deep water (10 ft+). In autumn and winter the wood got very green and slippery, we were very lucky that nobody actually fell into the water, but we did have an elderly member fall on the platform. ...

Re: Bleeding radiators

If the rad that is rusting is in the bathroom near the loo then there is nothing to worry about. Steam and stray splashes from dads and sons are often the cause of such rusting. Light sanding and a good undercoat and top coat of paint will do the trick. The regular need for bleeding can be caused by...

Re: Bleeding radiators

Beware folks, if electrolysis is taking place the gas in the radiator may well be hydrogen, so don't smoke whilst bleeding radiators. If the water released is very black, electrolysis is the most likely scenario. A suitable inhibitor will go a long way to stopping electrolysis, and remember that the...
