Re: redmite again

I have the same problem - thinking to fumigate the coop. other alternatives is to introduce predator mites which feed on red mite, however, they die easily, especially if the coop is treated with red mite treatments and also these need to be distributed everywhere there are red mites. Other alternat...

Re: Red mite

errrghhhh, they're back, yes found red mite yet again after using so many things to get rid of them; smite spray, poultry shield, Diatom earth powder, ant powder etc, washing the coop inside out etc.

I was told painting with lime wash kills and prevents red mite - has anyone tried this?

I normally stop treats and access to all other food to ensure chooks get the required dose of flub.

Kitten dust bathing like a chook - is this normal?

Hi, we got a kitten last year and she has grown up with chickens. We have found her dust bathing like a chicken - is this normal for a cat/kitten. She also very friendly with chickens and also known to look after newly hatched chicks as shown in the pics. http://i1071.photobucket.com/albums/u503/ser...

Re: putting baby chicks with hens

I had some chicks under heat, at 4 week old I introduced one of the chicks at dusk, in this case to two broody hens that were sharing the same nest and both been broody for a week or so ... I found that both hens accepted the chick and became very protective of it and both looked after it together. ...

Re: Where are my eggs?!

I don't know much about ducks but I have a few broody hens, and they do steal from each other, including moving eggs from nest on one end to another, and sometimes even rolling them out of the coop all together. Is it possible that other ducks when come in to lay and doing something similar?
