Possible turnaround

One of my light sussex's has been under the weather: not eating, sleepy, going blind and loosing weight. I foresaw that there was no positive outcome for this bird and decided I would do the necessary so as not to have it suffer. As a last ditch effort to try and get her eating I mixed up some mash,...

Re: Sleeping in the nest

Thanks all for your replies. Interesting points. One thing I might have solved is the sleeping on the floor. I have a deep bed of straw with some sheets of newspaper on top. The news paper crackles of course and makes it uncomfortable so tonight they all appear to be up on perches.

She was plucking up strands of dried straw and flinging the behind her. It all looked very unusual and surmised that she ...

Lackluster feathers

My White Sussex's feathers are looking somewhat dull at the moment. The poor feather have a browinsh tinge and are on their rumps. A fellow chicken keeper has blamed the weather saying the lack sunshine affects their feather condition. There appears to be nothing else wrong with them - they are layi...

Electric fencing

Apologies if I am posting in the wrong forum, but I was wondering about electric fencing. All the research I have done (coupled with little I know about electricity -not a lot) suggests that the body making the contact has to make a connection between a charged wire and the ground in order to create...
