Re: Very frugal february

I live in northeastern Oregon in a very little town. Have to drive to the next town, about 6 miles, to find a choice of markets and gas stations. Mail isn't even delivered here. We have to go to the post office and pick up our mail. I have lived in the same house and had the same number p.o. box for...

Re: Very frugal february

i no longer have dogs. My last one, a sweet little pomeranian, died in my arms of a massive stroke (she was very old) and I'm not willing to love another dog like that. God, that was hard. Maybe I will get over it some day and try again.

Re: What Frugal February's all about

I've read your story, Richard, and boy am I impressed. You must be astonished yourself how this forum that you created has grown. I'm sorry that your life took such a downturn several years ago, but sure do admire what you did with the pieces when you picked them up. You are someone I would love to ...

Re: Very frugal february

Sorrry, Manda, I forgot to answer your question. All the utilities here (electric, water, sewer) are franchised and there is no way to shop around for the services. I was really surprised that you guys have the options!

Re: Very frugal february

Good to talk with you too, Annie. My cats: One gorgeous Himalayan, a beautiful lynx point siamese, two yellow striped tabbies, two gray strays that needed a home, a sad looking white long haired guy, and a long haired calico. The first four are my originals, the last four were homeless and visited t...

Re: Very frugal february

Hamburger Helper is a boxed product containing spices, pasta, dried potatoes, or whatever. The idea is that all you have to add is cooked hamburger (mince?) some water or milk, butter, and you have a meal. I know it is horribly wasteful to buy these things, and I don't plan to any more, but there ar...

Re: Bollybarb's Budget busters!

Economizing really isn't too difficult, is it. Now, I do know that many people have things a lot harder than I do, and my heart goes out to them, for sure. If I didn't already have a paid-for house I don't know what I'd do. I so admire those who REALLY know how to get by on next to nothing. I want t...

Re: Rubyhen's first Frugal Feb

Hi Rubyhen! I also have slowed down to 55 mph. Don't know how that equals your measurement in GB. My car trips are short, mostly less than 10-15 miles from home. Today is Super Bowl Sunday. New England Patriots vs New York Giants. I'm betting on the Patriots. Bet my daughter-in-law one dollar. Told ...

Oh Sorry! I made a mistake! I retired in 2003 not 1963! Something subliminal maybe? Both I and my ex-husband are of quite a bit of Irish descent. (the name is Grogan) My younger son and his wife are gong to celebrate their 20th anniversary this year by traveling to Ireland for a week, so they are sa...

Re: Perchy's Pennywatching Frugal Diary

I have three big pots on my deck. Last year I had flowers in them, but this year I will plant vegetables. Tomatoes for sure, but what else is good for planting in pots? They are about 24 inches across and about the same deep. Any ideas for me?

Hi Stef! Talking about dieting, I was able to lose 10 pounds last month. My secret? I got the flu! Rotten, but it worked.

Re: Very frugal february

Petrol here is pretty expensive. About $3.75 per gallon. I drive a VW and get about 25 mph. Still hate to waste gas. I allow for one tankfull a month. My home is about 60 years old and was cheap when built. I have changed all the windows over the years to double panes so that will help. Also have do...

Re: Very frugal february

Good morning everyone! So good to hear from you. It is 10:30 a.m. here. What time is it there? This couponing thing is new to me so am trying to take advantage as much as I can. I have quite a bit of meat in the freezer so mainly shopping for fresh vegetables. I have to admit that I don't cook "...
