Re: Last tango in Halifax

Well I liked all of it. And Nicola (Walker?) has cropped up in many excellent dramas since filming the first series so it's nice to see her being recognised. I only stuck with that daft thing with the Norwegian detective (can't remember that name either) because she was so good. What a change from t...

Re: Best laid plans of mice and men !

Sorry for the duplication. No idea how that happened as I was sure that I had lost the first post.

Re: Best laid plans of mice and men !

This is just the sort of dog that I like. Our Toby is very similar.

There's a theme on a local pet site where people are "getting rid of dogs" because they have significantly failed to train their children to behave properly around animals.

Re: Best laid plans of mice and men !

She's just the sort of scruffy dog that I like. Our Toby is a similar mismatch of breeds. Just lately I seem to have read a lot about children teasing dogs who put up with a great deal but eventually issue a little warning. Just asking . . . whatever happened to training children to behave around do...

I do admire what you have done. You will miss Cyril (what a splendid name) but you have given him a happy future. That's something to be really proud of.

Re: Said goodbye to 'Big Ron'

I was sorry to read this. I'm even sorrier that I missed it before and asked the stupid, tactless question. The time will come when you will only smile when you remember Big Ron. Go with your heart, when thinking about the 11 year old rescue. We all know that you will have everything in place that t...

Re: Dark nights

Anyone else feel sorry for the girls now that they are "banged up" from 5pm to 7am?

I could do with some reassurance that chickens don't mind having long nights.

apple and bramble jam

OK - my freezer is almost full with the results from our veggie patch and fruit bushes. Storing apples wasn't that successful last year so I've mostly stewed them down and frozen. A friend has recommended making jam and I have a recipe for apple and bramble jam. All the brambles are in the freezer! ...

Bantam issue

About a year ago we took in 8 bantams that had been abandoned. They were fully feathered but seemed quite young. I've never really taken to them as they are very highly strung but they are beautiful. The are gold- and silver-laced Sebrights. A few weeks ago one of them seemed to be gaping. Within 48...

Re: Plastic bags

I have a thing about reusing plastic bags. My S++++bury's shop bags mostly get folded up and taken down to the Samaritans shop for reusing. The other bags that I get are used for clean things first (storing shredded paper for the hens for example), then after that they become bags for collecting net...

I do think I need to revisit my attitude to courgettes. The stuffed version sounds good; my friend always has a glut and offers me some.
