Re: Would anyone like a pile of strawberries?

Such a shame I missed this advert - I was off work that week - and I live in West Norfolk in a small village on the North West edge of Thetford Forest - and that week and we made jam. We were going to make strawberry but by the time we got to the local Poultry Auction place they had sold all the sof...

Re: Can anyone please give a home to Naughty Nita?

Shame you are not near Saffron Walden (where I work) as your girlie would find a home with my flock. Have you tried the following? When naughty hen misbehaves immediately hold her down firmly with one hand and gently tap her beak for 30 seconds or so with your fingernail. You are imitating the top h...

Re: PURPLE comb & wattle

I mix in garlic powder with my chooks feed (with a spash of cod liver oil) if any have purple combs - we used to have a very old girl and the garlic seemed to help whenever her comb went purple - also I hope it will put off mites and lice if they don't like garlic tasting chicken blood.

Re: 1 Lonely Hen in Cambridge

I live in Norfolk but work in Saffron Walden, I aready have nearly 50 hens and a large Cochin cockeral. 40 of my girls are rescued/rehomed/unwanted. They range from 4 month olds to some ancient ex battery hens that are 5 years old. If you still need a home will gladly add her to my flock.

Re: New home needed for Light Sussex

Shame you're not near Norfolk as she could join my flock. I have a Brahma Hen - a massive girl - who keep the others in check. Have you tried the finger tapping to the beak trick? When she bullies he fellow chooks, with one hand pin her firmly to the ground - with the other hand gently tap her on he...

Re: So sad

Have you tried some chicken phsycology on her? When she pecks feathers hold her firmly to the ground - and then with you finger nail gently tap her beak for about a minute - this reinforces you are the top chook - I do this to my disruptive girls - reinforces I'm in charge and castigates them for th...

Re: So sad

If you were near Norfolk I would ask if I could add her to my flock of 20.

I already have 3 bluebelles in my flock - my top chooks are my three ex-battery hens who keep all the other girls in order.
