Odd egg whites?Hi - My three yr old girl I thought, had stopped laying, but over the last 2 months she has layed 3 eggs. When opened the yolk sits on the edge the watery part but is totally separate from the thick albumen part on the other side. This thicker white part is very opaque and looks almost slightly cook...
Re: Pickling eggsOooo just thinking about pickling some eggs. I've never had one either but want to give it a try too. I think I read somewhere fresh eggs should be 4 weeks old to guarantee they stay whole when shell removed Do you think that would be ok, or would they be off by then? I'd love to hear how you get on...
Anyone make Kefir?Hi - i just got myself some grains from freecycle three days ago. The results so far are really yummy! Wondering if anyone does this and what you can make with any extra kefir? I imagine these little goodies will multiply greatly once they really get going.

Re: Coconut magic pie.....Made this twice now. The latest one I added 2 Tbsp of cocoa powder. It was DELICIOUS! It is even better cold from the fridge. Coconut hater son, loves it too. It's so easy and tasty. I would definitely recommend giving it a try. Thanks Manda!
Nasty little black flying things. My greenhouse seedlings are doing very poorly. There are tiny weeny black hovering flies all over the soil and around the plants. They aren't black fly, like on bean plants. They are really small and hard to catch. I tried a bug spray but it made no difference. I read about a bowl of vinegar but tha...
Re: Wild GarlicI think I may have some in my back garden. I always thought they were white bluebells. How can you tell the difference? The leaves are very narrow (same as my bluebells) but they do have an oniony smell. I thought wild garlic had very wide leaves? I don't want to poison the family!
Re: Defra rules?Thank you for allowing such an open forum. I used to subscribe to one where, as a new chicken mum, I asked this kind of question and my thread was locked as it was too controversial! (I love your honesty Richard.) Personally if you are sensible and really "ZAP" the food and it is free from...
Are eggs good or bad for us?Having been told I have high LDL Cholesterol and my Dr said I should not have more than 3 eggs a week . I have been looking around on the web (as you do) and I'm thinking this is outdated advice. Eggs seem not to be the bad guys but it is the other stuff you eat. Have I got it wrong? Are eggs really...
Re: halal meat - do we have a choice? Thanks for posting this. I could not believe what I was reading! I think the last sentence sums it up very well. "This is not only commercially wrong, morally it is a disgrace." We have drastically cut down our meat consumption recently anyway but this article has shocked me so much, I wil...
Re: Cake in advance - any ideas please!OOOOH YES PLEASE DAVE!
If you can scrape off the tiny holly sprig and put something twinkly on top of the two year old xmas cake, I might just about get away it. (It does look very tasty. You didn't tell us you were married to THE Mary Berry )
Re: Cake in advance - any ideas please!Brilliant, you clever ladies! I think I will go with the boozy fruit cake, ready rolled marzipan and icing, silver twinkle ribbon and prob strict instructions to Mr T to plonk a silk flower posy and a fondant plaque on top on the day as I won't have time when I get back (Literally straight to party ...
