Re: Helen's Hentastic Adventure!

Hi Bob, we still have four girls left. We were considering getting some extra ones but the ones we have left just seem so happy and settled at the moment I can't bring myself to disturb the peace!! Maybe in the spring we'll think about expanding the flock again! :)

Re: Helen's Hentastic Adventure!

So I thought it was time for a little update... Chicken keeping sure is an adventure. I feel like we have been through so much with our girls in such a short space of time that we must have seen the vast majority of chicken illness by now (touch wood!). Here is a summary of events: 1. We had Holly g...

Re: Helen's Hentastic Adventure!

Today is terrible. I’m so so worried about my little baby Holly, the last few days have been a bit of a learning curve putting into practice advice I've read from others here about broodiness, hen pecking, wounds etc. Holly has been broody, has had a dirty bum and has been a little hen pecked so spe...

Please help - my baby just laid a lash :(

Help please, I’m so so worried about my little baby. Holly has been broody, has had a dirty bum and has been a little hen pecked so spent the night indoors after having a nice bath and blow dry. She’s been eating and drinking loads but last night she passed this http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f12...

dramas with the broody

So as per my post on another thread my little 22 week baby light sussex has gone broody. We were all ok getting the eggs out and kicking her off her nest and all was going well - she was going back in to the nest less and less often BUT this afternoon we noticed her bum was really mucky and horrid a...

Broody baby!

My baby's gone broody Seriously, she's laid about 6 eggs her whole life and is only about 21 weeks old but she's gone well and truly broody! She's had several cold baths, all eggs are removed the second they are laid and we take her off her little nest whenever we see her. I hope it doesn't last lon...

Re: What hens lay the biggest eggs?

We had the biggest one so far in our chicken keeping adventure. 76g by Betty our H&N Brown Nick! The others lay around the 60g mark but some days we can get little tiddlers at 30-40g!!!

I love all things David Attenborough, I find all his programs so interesting and his voice is so lulling that quite often I'll put old ones on the tv if i want a little nap and will drift straight off!

Re: Helen's Hentastic Adventure!

They really are, and they are so so easy to keep. I was really worried before we got them that they'd be too loud and too messy and would all get eaten by foxes within 10 minuets and could take too much time and work to keep but I really couldn't have been more wrong. They are good as gold, they are...

Re: Fox Got Close But Didn't Appear Interested

It's good she didn't seem too interested by them... I'm so paranoid about the foxes even though I've only seen one the whole time we've lived in our house!

your girls don't seem too fussed either!
