Serious moult!

Hi everyone, not been on here for a while but I need some advice. My six girls have not been laying very well for ages, they've gone from 6 eggs a day to virtually none. They started to moult a few weeks ago, I was away on holiday last week and a friend who also has hens was looking after them. I go...

Re: Anyone having seed germination problems this year ?

Re: Unpleasant subject, but I have to ask.

We had four black rock hens about two years ago and one by one they started to fail, they were only 18months old, unlucky I guess. My poor hubby had to dispatch the first one when she succumbed to peritonitits. His face when he came in said it all When the another one died and one other was obviouls...

Re: New girls - worm or not to worm

Cheers, they were all out together yesterday and although granny hen was a bit rough with them, they all seemed to get on ok.

I'll start worming them end of the week.

New girls - worm or not to worm

Hi everyone, we collected our 6 new girls yesterday who are 18 weeks old. They are fully vaccinated and I am in the process of introducing them to my last remaining Black Rock who is 2. They are settling in quite well and I was wondering if I should worm them straight away or not. Any thoughts?

Re: Devastated!!

I know exactly how you feel, I lost my first girl last year and cried buckets Out of my remaining three, two died on the same day. I was devastated, especially as it was my cheeky, in your face hen, Missy. She was the one who was at the gate first, sat on the fork when I was digging and generally a ...

Another case of sour crop

One of my girls has been suffering from sour crop this week. She was very quiet and hunched up, also very sleepy. I really thought she was going to die and tried to tempt her with some mealworms. As she she took one, some fluid came out of her beak so I picked her up and tipped her forward, a lot of...

Re: how to "tip" a hen

Hi, one of my girls has been off colour for a few day now. sitting by herself and hunched. today I thought, this is it as she was walking funny and throwing her head around. I tried, as a last resort to some meal worms and as she took one, some fluid came out of her mouth. I remembered about tipping...

Re: Very wet ground

Hi, we have a similar problem. Our run is like a swamp right now but the girls seem to be managing. We do have some paving slabs, but they get covered in mud and poo just as bad! Cannot wait for some warm and sunny weather >mmm<

Re: Aldidl shopping

I shop every week at Aldi and Lidl, love them both. Always enjoy a good rumage around the special offers.
Lidl especially have won loads of taste tests, beating a lot of branded foods.
I will certainly be stocking up for christmas

She was just sitting in the corner of the run, I put her into the hen house after encouraging her to eat something, when I checked her vent it was pulsating ...
