We have Chickies hatching for EasterThis is the first time we have done this and were not expecting great results. We brought some rare breed fertile eggs from Somerset, what a day that was lol. We got terribly lost in the little villages and country lanes and ended up in Devon, seeing as we had traveled down from 35 miles west of Lon...
Re: Spinage just a quick questionI am just wondering if it is the difference between reptile eggs and bird eggs.. Lizard and snake eggs and soft shelled and quite leathery where as we all know bird eggs are harder shelled. It was just something that crossed my mind lol as many things do.

Spinach just a quick questionI used to breed lizards and giving them spinage was a no no as it is calcium binding. I just wondered if this would be the same in Chickens? I have not given mine any mainly because of what it did to my lizards and their eggs and body.

Up date on Piper the poorly chickHi all and thanks for your reply's on my previous thread. Piper saw the vet today and he is pretty sure that she has had a small stroke. There is nothing broken or bruised and sodium level was normal. We have decided not to have her pts yet as she is eating, drinking, pooping well and seems apart fr...
Re: Bumble and Epsom SaltsHi Mike and thanks for the reply on my thread, I was going back over what they have had over the last few weeks and the last time they had porridge was the cold weather we had just before Christmas.. I made it so it would not have contained any salt, they have not had any kitchen scraps apart from c...
Re: Need some help with a poorly chick Are you making up the porridge with water as milk must not be given to the hens. Porridge is really a treat best just given in the afternoon when very cold night is predicted. As you now realise salt is a big no no for hens as with most animals. If it was salt then surely the other hens would be af...
Re: Need some help with a poorly chick Liz, why salt intolerance? I know hens dont tolerate salt - have you been giving them scraps that might have been salty?? Hopefully she recovers quickly for you and really hope its not Mareks. Maybe shes damaged the leg since she was outside the coop the first night - maybe she was being bullied by...
Re: Need some help with a poorly chickJust spoke to someone who breeds chickens and he was very helpful.. Says it could be a salt intolerance and if that's the case then we should see an improvement with her over the coming days just keep her on layers mash and regular tap water along with some cider vinegar and vitamins. Which I have i...
Need some help with a poorly chickHi all and hope you all had a very happy and peaceful Christmas. We are in need of some help with one of our hybrid hens, she is about 5 months old and has been with us for just over 2 months. She was fitting in the the other hens and although quite far down the pecking order she was not at the bott...
Re: Do you know any Chicken or other Poultry BreedersI don't know if you have these on your list yet but, they are based in Berkshire and we have got most of our chickens from them. All of their stock is healthy and vaccinated and they give you the time you need to talk about them and ask questions. http://www.motherhenspoultry.com/
