Re: Serama BreedersI finally found a breeder an hour from me and went to see her yesterday (Sunday). She has such a good reputation that as fast as she hatches chicks and gets them to two months so that they can be sexed they sell to her waiting list so she can't grow any to a bigger size. She had a few girls at two m...
Serama BreedersI wondered if anyone here knows of serama breeders near Berkshire (within an hours drive). I am in Wooburn Green which is near Windsor and High Wycombe. My usual breeder has taken a couple of years out and although ready to start breeding again he has nothing hatched this year yet. I have two bantam...
Re: Broody hen put to good useLovely video. They are beautiful.
Re: Mycoplasma and the use of tylanI thought it was time to come back with an update. My vet wasn't able to get denagard for me in a small enough amount. She ordered some and it came in a huge sack which said to mix an amount with one ton of chicken food and if you over dose, the chickens could go into toxic shock ... eeek! I decided...
Re: Mycoplasma and the use of tylanHi Kitia When the two new girls bought this into my flock last summer I knew nothing about this, (I lost them both). I treated with baytril (I used to mix it with sunflower hearts and Caramel woofed it down). I had her three weeks from getting her to having her put to sleep. One eye swelled, sticky ...
Re: Mycoplasma and the use of tylanHi Bob I have done loads of research on this (my vet agrees with me) mycoplasma has the symptoms mine have which is sneezing, Slight wheezing in their breathing and sometimes bubbles in their eyes. The bubbles are only occasionally when they are perched up in the afternoons and they are able to quic...
Re: Mycoplasma and the use of tylanHi Bob and Karen Yesterday I thought they looked worse with bubbles in their eyes (the two worse girls) but today they look brighter and no bubbles. I have been to the vet today to collect poultry zest which she recommended to give them a boost and she is getting me some denagaurd which is stronger....
Re: Mycoplasma and the use of tylanHi Bob It's definitely respiratory disease. They are sneezing and droplets spray out when they sneeze. They did have a darth vader sound to their breathing but that has now cleared however they are still sneezing. I am on day seven of the second bout of tylan and they have been like this for three w...
Re: Mycoplasma and the use of tylanThank you Cheshire Chick. After a bigger dose of tylan today I am actually feeling a bit more hopeful. For the first time in days I can't hear the wheeze in their breathing and the sneezing has lessened and no dozing today. I am quietly hopeful. I will give a bigger dose again tomorrow I will keep u...
Re: Mycoplasma and the use of tylanI am day six of the second lot of tylan so will keep going with that. I got another bottle from my vet yesterday so I will mix it a bit stronger. It says one gram per litre of water which is too small to measure so by searching the internet I found that's one teaspoon per litre of water. As I was ru...
Re: Mycoplasma and the use of tylanBob, can ask how long your girls have taken to recover from this? (at longest) to give me some sort of time frame. My girls have been sneezing for three weeks and I treated with tylan for five days then stopped for seven days (in hind sight I wish I hadn't stopped but didn't know if it was safe to c...
Re: Mycoplasma and the use of tylanI meant to say yesterday, Bob, thank you for your kind offer of tylan. My vet rang yesterday and said she is happy to give me some stock. Last time she gave me £10 worth and this time she said she will give me £20 worth so that I have plenty. She measures it out for me into a plastic bottle. I am so...
Re: Mycoplasma and the use of tylanHi Bob and Kitia It is reassuring that I can keep going with tylan. I gave five days then seven days break and am now three days in with enough to complete ten days. I have read everything I can find including the information on Kitia's link. I also put into the search "can chickens get colds?&...
Re: Mycoplasma and the use of tylanThank you Gwenoaks and Karen. That was my conclusion really. I will start again with tylan today and this time keep on going for ten days and disinfect the chicken shed. I think that I have to just keep going until there is improvement. I think I just wanted someone to back up my thoughts really.
Mycoplasma and the use of tylanUnfortunately since last year I have had mycoplasma in my flock. I bought it in unknowingly with two new girls which I lost but since then treated the whole flock with tylan in the water and have kept it at bay. It resurfaced in the summer and I treated again successfully but it has now come back ag...
