Re: Supplements yes or noMine have only ever had a small amount of apple cider vinegar in their water (1 week every month), and all are doing fine
Re: New additions?Thanks Jackian,
I'm picking up 2 Bluebells later today. Fingers crossed the introduction isn't too traumatic!
New additions?I've had my 4 black rocks for nearly 2 years. I'm extending the run this week and thinking of getting another 2 or 3 chickens. Any advice as to what would mix well - am I OK mixing point of lay with older birds? And could I get another breed - I was thinking maybe Speckedly. Or could I mix in 3 or 4...
Re: Run flooring.I use woodchips too, and they have been great. Go for play grade woodchip, they don't go mouldy and last a long time
Reseeding runHi, my girls have an fenced outside run, which we are just in the process of extending. They have scratched all the grass off the existing run to bare soil. I was planning to fence a bit of the run off and reseed. Just wondered - are there any seed mixes that would be good to use - was wondering abo...

Re: Just enjoying Christmas dinner!Lucky girls! Hope you enjoyed xmas too Lisa
Re: Congratulations - its an egg!Fantastic, what a clever chook
Re: 1st egg!!Well done that chicken First egg such a great occasion.

Apparently the fluctuations in temperature from the door opening and closing is the worst thing. If you do keep them in the fridge, then keep them to the back, not in the door
Re: Water Consumption Querywe have 4 chickens and I tend to fill the 3L drinker up about half way and that has been more than plenty for them so far, so I'm sure there's nothing to worry about
Re: 1st egg!!Well done that girl! We had our first egg about 2weeks ago, brilliant isn't it?
Egg identificationWhen I first got my chickens I wondered how i would ever tell then apart. Unbelievable now, they are so distinctive I know who is who at a glance. And now they have all started laying, I can even tell by the eggs which one layed them! Goldie's eggs are slightly speckled with white, Jet lays the larg...
Chooks very vocalChickens are making an absolute racket today. They are usually quite quiet, but just been up to clean out the coop and they're making an almighty squawking noise. They keep going in and out of the coop, which they don't usually do. They are just coming into lay - have had my first 2 eggs over the la...
