Re: Wire Mesh?

I would go for the 1in x half inch without a doubt. With the 2 in x 2 in you could find that if there are foxes in the area if a chook poked her head out of the holes (which they will do because anything outside the run is more interesting than what is in the run) you may end up with a headless chic...

Re: Which is the best Chicken Wire to use.

I have used the 1.6mm wire with 1in x half in holes (this makes the run rat proof too) :)

Re: Which is the best Chicken Wire to use.

I don't know how much you need but I used 30m of weldmesh on mine. I went for the 16g but you could get away with 19g (I wanted to be sure as I know we have foxes in the garden on a regular basis). I also went for 1inch by half an inch gaps, this makes it more secure from rats too as adult rats cann...

Hiya
I am a Bristolian chook owner who is thinking about hatching. This thread has been really interesting, thank you. I think we may have a little visit of Bath City Farm at the weekend, the children will love it.

Hatching?

Well I have one girl who goes broody at the drop of a hat, she is a lovely friendly girl. I would love to hatch but I realise this is not something that somone should do likely and prudence should get a look in. I also know that it needs to be well thought through. I realise that I may get some boys...

They do poo alot. 2 good ideas to help with the smell of the poo is adding garlic powder (2tbsp per grub) it is sold for about £3.50 from horse shops and you get a huuuggeee amount which will last ages. Also you can buy bokashi bran, this also nutralises the odour and makes the poos really firm so t...

I got mine from www.hillsofdevon.co.uk really cheap and free delivery and it comes the next day. We went for 1in x 1/2 in as this should stop rats and is fox proof. We went for 16guage but after seeing 19guage next time I would prob go with that as it is cheaper but I would say still fox proof.
